The Ranaweera Quads – Kevin, Brian, Ryan & Dylan, 5 years, made the news as they prepare to start schooling this year. They will attend Courtenay Gardens Primary School, Cranbourne North. The quads were born at 28 weeks, weighing between 785g and 957g, just three months after their parents and sister arrived from Sri Lanka. Needless to say, their mother is looking forward t some quiet time, whilst they are at school.

Prof David de Kretser, outgoing Governor of Victoria has warned Victorian parents that their children risk living shorter lives than their grandparents because they are too fat. Governor de Kretser, a former Father of the Year, Monash Institute of Health head and eminent medical researcher, said childhood obesity and climate change were the biggest challenges facing Australians and predicted future generations of Victorians would be crippled by health problems unless children lead healthier lives.

STC OBA NSW - New Committee 2011/12 The Annual General Meeting of S. Thomas’ College OBA NSW was held on Sunday 30th October 2011. Eksath Perera was appointed President succeeding Panchan Ratneser. In his annual report Panchan highlighted the major events undertaken during period as President. He thanked the team for their support in achieving success at every event. Proposing a vote of thanks Eksath congratulated the members of the new committee and thanked Panchan and other outgoing committee members for their dedication, high standards and conduct. The Asia Foundation has announced LankaCorps, a unique new opportunity for young professionals of Sri Lankan heritage to professionally engage in social, cultural, and economic development activities in Sri Lanka. Three young leaders will be selected to live and work for six months in Sri Lanka as Asia Foundation LankaCorps Fellows from June 15 to December 15, 2012. The program's intent is to foster the involvement of young members of the diaspora who have limited in-depth experience with the country. Loveable Sri Lankan Cheer Leader Percy By Rex Clementine The entire team rose up in respect when one of the greatest fast bowler to have played the game Sir Richard Hadlee paid a visit to the Sri Lankan dressing room during the first Test Match in Christchurch. While Hadlee collected a few autographs from the players, he apparently asked Chaminda Vaas how his great pal Percy Abeysekara was. Hadlee has been a great admirer of Percy and had even presented the Sri Lankan cheerleader some of his memorabilia after he saw the Sri Lankan’s knowledge and passion for the game. ‘Percy, don’t lose your voice, Sri Lanka needs it more than you,’ he’s supposed to have written in one of Percy’s autographs.
