Elephant Safari-Minneriya National Park-Sri Lanka – By Dr Harold Gunatillake Website: www.Doctorharold.com Minneriya National Park is home to the world’s largest-known gathering of Asian elephants. Herds of up to 350 elephants are seen at the 8,890-hectare park within a few square kilometres of the Minneriya Tank. According to some reports, there are as many as 700 elephants. A group of us stayed at the Elephant Lake Resort in Habarana overnight, and the next day, we made a trip to the Minneriya National Park. Minneriya National Park is situated in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka. The area was designated a national park on 12 August 1997, initially declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1938.[1] The reason for declaring the area as protected is to protect the Minneriya tank’s catchment and the surrounding area’s wildlife. Attending the Gem and Jewelry fair in Bangkok-6-10th Sept.2023 – By Dr harold Gunatillake Is there an economic crisis in Sri Lanka today? What is the status of Sri Lanka in 2023, as far as the economy and well-being of the people are concerned? Government data showed that Sri Lanka’s economy shrank 11.5 per cent in the first quarter of 2023 from the previous year, even as the cash-strapped island nation struggles to overcome the economic crisis. Sri Lanka faces the worst economic crisis in the island nation’s history. With that depressing situation in mind, to cheer me up, I visited the Gem and Jewellery Fair in Bangkok held from the 6th to the 10th of September this year and compared personally what progress that country has made over the recent years, even after going through a worse period with the Covid endemic. Of course, Thailand’s dramatic economic growth has ...

How does fructose harm your body? – Dr harold Gunatillake *The researchers suggest that, unlike glucose, used as immediate fuel, unfortunately, fructose triggers the body to store fuel. *High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is a central ingredient in many traditional soft drinks, including Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and Sprite. It’s what gives your drink a sweet taste, but it’s also what accounts for chronic diseases like insulin resistance, non alcoholic fatty liver, and obesity among others. Fructose also called “fruit sugar,” is a naturally occurring sugar found primarily in fruits (such as apples, dates, figs, pears, and prunes), but also in vegetables (such as artichokes, asparagus, mushrooms, onions, and red peppers), honey, sugar beets, corn, potatoes, and sugar cane. On the other hand, Glucose is sourced by breaking down dietary carbs into disaccharides or polysaccharides, which are larger sugar molecules. Like all sugars, both glucose and fructose are carbohydrates. But not all ...

Hello Viewers, Esala perahera, or pageant, started on the 21st of August this year, as the Kumbal perahera was for 7 days and was followed by the Randoli perahera, terminated on the 30th of August. How good is a can or two beers every day? – By Dr Harold Gunatillake Beer is one of the oldest beverages in the world. Beer recipes can be found in Egyptian tombs, Mesopotamian archaeological sites and Babylonian texts. Today, beer is found in grocery stores and breweries around the world. People are even rediscovering the joy of making beer at home. *Beer has high levels of B vitamins, particularly folic acid, which is believed to help prevent heart attacks. Beer also has soluble fibre, which keeps you regular, reducing the likelihood that your system will absorb unhealthy junk like fat. I drink a can or two small beers every day. I walk an average of 35,000 steps in a day, intermittently covering 8,000 steps per hour, and I relax with a small can of beer or two at intervals. I am 94 years old and have carried this habit ...
