Honoring the LEGEND – Desmond de Silva – by Mariazelle Goonetilleke What a night that was … His contemporaries and colleagues came from many parts of the world with only one thought and that was to remember Des the legend and tribute to him through song and music. The Paravilla Function Center Sydney was the venue selected for the night and from the moment you entered the foyer – you felt as though Des himself was there – because you walked into his personal belongings – suits, pictures, awards, and memoirs – all of these for his fans and friends to witness first hand. The Srilankan entourage consisted of Sohan Weerasinghe, Melantha Perera, Corrine Almeida, Trevine Joseph, and myself. We were so moved we would be on the program that we all stood up to be counted. Our only request was the visa, air ticket, accommodation, and domestic travel. Once ...

Remembering the Legend Desmond De Silva…   It seems like only yesterday but it’s been a year since the musical Legend Desmond De Silva left us so suddenly.  January 9th marks his first death anniversary.   His wife Phyllis says.. “I still can’t believe he is gone!  We were watching the Test Match together the previous afternoon….he was totally relaxed and making the usual comments as armchair cricketers do.  We teased each other as we backed rival teams.  Little did I know what the next day will bring forth.  It is as if he just switched off a light… he was gone!” 12 months later we are all feeling his loss.  Family, friends and fans still find it unbelievable.  He was so full of life!  He had charm & charisma…. He lit up the stage! His warm personality touched many lives … not just through his music but that he took time to mentor fellow musicians, to reach out ...
