SRI LANKA CRICKET NEWS (MARCH  2024) Compiled by Victor Melder The Cricket Selection Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket has named Niroshan Dickwella as a replacement for Kusal Janith Perera for the Twenty20 International (T20I) Series against Bangladesh, which begins on Monday in Sylhet. Perera, who was included in the T20I Squad, will not take part in the series as he is suffering from a respiratory infection. Perera did not join the team, which left for Bangladesh on Thursday. Dickwella will join the team tomorrow, ahead of the first match, which will be played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet. Sri Lanka register first win but it certainly wasn’t pretty. – By TREVINE RODRIGO IN MELBOURNE (Elanka Sports Editor)  Sri Lanka wobbled their way to their first World Cup win over the giant killing Netherlands but they made it after after some uncomfortable moments.  Unbeaten so far by the world’s new upstarts in their previous five encounters, Sri Lanka scrambled to a five wicket victory with ten balls to spare and kept that record intact. Netherlands skipper Scott Edwards may have rued his decision to bat first after winning the toss on a grassy Lucknow wicket. Sri Lanka leave out Wanindu Hasaranga from World Cup squad Source:Dailymirror Despite earlier indications that all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga could be part of Sri Lanka’s Cricket World Cup squad, the ace-spinner was not included in the 15-member contingent that leaves for India today.  The spinner is still recovering from a grade 3 hamstring tear and is expected to be fully fit towards the latter stages of the tournament, with multiple reports suggesting that selectors could be compelled to still include him in the squad with the expectation of him featuring at the back end of the World Cup.  However, SLC confirmed that the player had not been included, with leg-spinner Dushan Hemantha, who was earlier set to travel as a reserve, taking his place.  Hasaranga can however be added to the squad in the event that any of the 15 players who have been named sustain an injury during the course ...

SRI LANKA CRICKET NEWS – By Victor Melder Complied by Victor Melder   (JUNE 2023)     Experienced batsman Angelo Mathews was omitted from the Sri Lanka squad for the Cricket World Cup qualifiers this month, in an otherwise unchanged squad named for the three-month ODI series against Afghanistan.  Brought in earlier this year to support an otherwise inexperienced ODI batting line up, Mathews managed just scored of 18, 0 and 12 in three matches since his return, and with only 15 players allowed in the squad, the former captain failed to make the cut.  Of the 15 players named for the World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe, only Chamika Karunaratne did not feature in a single game in the series against Afghanistan, which Sri Lanka won 2-1.  Sri Lanka begin their qualification campaign against the United Arab Emirates on June 19, but are scheduled to play two warm up matches ...
