Impressed with his yorker, MS Dhoni invites Sri Lankan teenage pacer to CSK nets Source : timesofindia The 17-year-old right-arm Sri Lankan pacer’s dream delivery has not only caught the attention of CSK skipper MS Dhoni but also reportedly earned him an invitation to bowl in the CSK nets in IPL 2024, which is allowing Dhoni to have a closer look at the young bowler from Jaffna. When Kugadas Mathulan bowled a lethal in-swinging yorker that swept the batsman off his feet, he wouldn’t have thought that the viral clip from the match between St. John’s College and Jaffna Central College will catch the attention of Chennai Super Kings’ iconic skipper MS Dhoni. Interestingly, Muthulan’s bowling action bears close resemblance to current Mumbai Indians’ bowling coach Lasith Malinga. Like the Sri Lankan great, Muthulan too delivers with an unusual round-arm action that can put the batsmen off. Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana is ...

Matheesha Pathirana: Another Wicket-Shattering Slinger-by Michael Roberts   Source:Thuppahis The 18-year-old, slinging fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana has burst upon the T20 format in wicket-clattering manner. Not for Sri Lanka – but for the Chennai Super Kings under veteran Dhoni’s captaincy and Stephen Fleming’s oversight; …. and watching him from some other ground as one of the backroom coaching staff for another IPL team was …. guess whom? None other than the original slinger Lasith Malinga. Working chronologically backwards, take in the detailed statistics of the 20th over bowled by Pathirana for the CSK against Delhi Capitals: three wides, three fours conceded and one wicket to complete a spell which saw him end with figures of 3 wkts for 37 at a expense rate of 9.25 … yes, expensive but also wicket-taking (usually yorkers clattering the stumps). ...

Rajasthan Royals appoint Lasith Malinga as fast bowling coach for IPL 2022 Source:Dailynews Rajasthan Royals have roped in Lasith Malinga as their fast-bowling coach ahead of IPL 2022, and Paddy Upton as “Team Catalyst”. Malinga, who retired as a player in 2021, is the highest wicket-taker in the IPL with 170 scalps across nine seasons for Mumbai Indians. “CRICKET-COMMENTS”-by Des Kelly Sent in to e’Lanka by Keith Bennett who never ever fails to “spin-up” a satisfactory yarn for each and every Sri Lankan who loves Cricket (I am still looking for one who doesn’t), so, thank you for this one, Keith. As I have said before, and reiterate for the umpteenth time, Cricket is only a GAME, and, like any other game, you WIN some, and LOSE some. Sri Lanka is on a losing curve at the moment, but hold on to your caps, for the tide to turn shortly, and we can cheer our team onto victory, no matter which team they are up against. In the meantime, let us just say “good luck, guys, don’t forget to keep on, keeping on, for old Sri Lanka, you are a great team, no matter what !!. Desmond Kelly. (Editor-in-Chief) eLanka. ...

It needs a mastermind to win in South Africa-by Rex Clementine Source:Island Indian cricket had reached new heights last year winning in Australia, sealing the series of all places at the Gabba, where the Aussies had been unbeaten for three decades. Given such an epic performance, you thought this Indian team will complete a series win in South Africa as well. But the Indians were cut to size as the Proteas chased down a tricky target showing guts in plenty with their skipper Dean Elgar putting up a super show at the Wanderers this week. The series is leveled 1-1 and India could still go onto win it by emerging victorious in the final Test in Cape Town next week. The point is that you thought the series for this Indian side is a walk in the park given the parity between the two sides. If India do not win ...

Russel Arnold: Sri Lanka’s Forgotten ODI Star By Michael Roberts Source:cricketique.live During the course of the World Cup 2015 watchers were occasionally served up statistical tables of leading run-scores in the history of World Cup or ODI cricket. Sri Lankan fans would have been especially attentive to those featuring Sangakkara’s stellar career and record breaking levels. On one such occasion I was intrigued to see Russel Arnold’s statistics appear at the tail-end of an august list of names. Primed by Arnold’s appearance as a TV commentator and his impeccable performance in this role, I proceeded to do some research on the topic and began with a statistical picture of a comparative kind that is quite revelatory. This picture raises issues about media-hype and our very own memory banks.   It would be fair to say that the batsmen stars in the ODI memory store of Sri Lankan cricket enthusiasts over the ...
