About the Author – Devika Brandon

Dr. Devika would like to address the members on the topic of ‘Reverse Emigration’.

In 1971, her family emigrated to Australia. In 2001, they returned to Sri Lanka when her parents retired. At her parents’ request, Devika came back to Sri Lanka in 2015/16. She found it challenging, but also learned a lot about the country and its people, and herself.

Her first novel, written over the last 8 years, addresses many of the issues faced by Sri Lankans returning from abroad, and engaging in the country.

Devika is an academic, teacher, reviewer and editor of EnLiterate, as well as a creative writer and poetry and prose editor. She was Consultant Editor for FemAsia Magazine, and a Poetry Editor with Girls On Key. She is currently Content Editor for the New Ceylon Writing Literary Journal, and Executive Editor of Glitterati Quill Magazine. Her work has been widely published in anthologies and journals, both in print and online.

Devika is also a journalist, whose opinion pieces and articles have been published in The Sunday Times, The Daily Mirror, Groundviews, Ceylon Today, The Morning, and The Sun. Her first novel, Aversion, set in contemporary Sri Lanka, has recently been published by Jam Fruit Tree Publications.

About the Ceylon Society of Australia (CSA)

The CSA is a non-profit organisation, incorporated in Australia with the Colombo Chapter based in Colombo. Its main objectives are to foster, promote, and develop interest in the history and cultural heritage of Sri Lanka. Apart from publishing the journal The Ceylan, which has attracted much international appreciation, the Society holds meetings regularly in Sydney, Melbourne and Colombo.

CSA is a gathering of like-minded people, open to receiving and imparting new ideas. Members of the public with an interest in the study of Sri Lankan history, culture and heritage – the young members of the public are especially welcome!
