The Economy During The Anuradhapura Epoch – By Dr Tilak S. Fernando Every part of the central city of Anuradhapura belonged to the King during the Anuradhapura epoch. There was a standard procedure for kings to follow, known (in Sinhala) as Dasaraja Dharmaya – meaning Charitability, Generosity, Straightforwardness, Humility, Innocence, Peacefulness, Anger, Calmness and Independence. The King was also known as the mahapathy. Once a king was crowned, the new King had to continue with the previous king’s (undertakings, such as repairs to industries and lakes, lochs etc.) It was a standard gesture for the King to maintain peace and tranquillity in the society. The etiquette laid down the Royal family’s rights, which meant that if a king died (without children), the crown was entitled to the dead king’s paternal side. The throne went to his young brothers. During the crowning, the King was made to sit on a throne made out of  ...

Effects Of Chiromancy Or Palmistry – By Dr Tilak S. Fernando Ceylon Today, January 6- 2023. Chiromancy or palmistry is a skill of evaluating a person’s character or future by “reading” the palm of an individual’s hand. The heart line, head line, lifeline, etc., and the mounds immediately appearing under the base of each finger suggest elucidations by their relative sizes, qualities, and intersections. Some palm readers observe the characteristics of the fingers, fingernails, fingerprints, skin patterns, skin texture and colour, the palm’s shape and the hand’s flexibility. Basic palmistry is entrenched in Greek mythology, where every area of the palm is related to a god or goddess. Those who dabble in palmistry without proper knowledge of the subject tend to accuse the entire Science. Different schools of thought indicate that the right hand predicts the future, whilst the left is considered the one which is inborn with, or what ...

The New Mantra – By Dr Tilak S. Fernando Ceylon Today – December 13, 202 Because of the enormous gap between ‘unknown effectiveness’ in conventional (allopathic) medicine, ‘integrative medicine’ should be the new ‘mantra’ in any healthcare system -i.e., using the best from traditional medicine and homoeopathy combined. Homoeopathy is both alternative and complementary medicine that can be used alone or with conventional drugs. Two similar diseases – one weaker and the other stronger — cannot exist in a living body. The stronger disease, the artificial disease created by taking allopathic medicine destroys the weaker disease, which is the natural disease in a patient. Translated into modern English by Wenda Brewster O’Reilly, statements 17-45 in Dr. Hahnemann’s ‘Organon’ of the Medical Art and two other English translations by different translators, especially in the 6th edition (by ignoring references to potencies, as the 6th edition was detected long after Dr. Hahnemann’s ...

HOMOEOPATHY Series 1-By Dr. Tilak S Fernando In response article in my blog ’tilaksblog.com’ when Covid-19 implications were at their Peak, the writer received a detailed description of homoeopathy from Dhiru Nathwani at rogers.com, which opened the eyes of those who are sceptical about Homoeopathy. Dr Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843 A.D.), a German physician, chemist and linguist, gave up his practice of medicine, being disgusted with the medical treatments of his day. He then earned his living by translating medical textbooks. While solving a book written by William Cullen (a physician of great repute in his time), Hahnemann came across a statement explaining why cinchona (quinine) tree bark powder was effective in treating intermittent fever prevalent in swampy areas. He disagreed with the explanation given for pyrexia (fever) and experimented with himself by taking the powder. He found out that all symptoms except pyrexia could heal Malaria. Even though he was ...

SRILANKAN AIRLINES – IS IT A PARADISE? – By Dr. Tilak S. Ferando For the last few years, the SriLankan airline has been making a loss continuously. It is the consensus of everyone that the airline is overstaffed, particularly top-heavy, with millions of rupees to the senior management staff as salaries.  Therefore, the only option would be to privatise the airline. During President Chandrika Kumaratunga’s rulership, one of the international airline multinational conglomerates, with its separate travel company, showed an interest in taking over SriLankan airways. Virgin Conglomerate’s Chairman, Mr Richard Branson, had discussions with President Kumaratunga. He had to return to the UK disappointed, only having placed Sri Lankan ginger beer for virgin flights. SriLankan Airlines has gone through a metamorphosis of names in 42 years. Formally, it was known as the flag carrier of Ceylon under ‘Air Ceylon’. In 1979 Air Lanka commenced its operations from Bandaranaike Airport. ...
