Hi All,
As mentioned to you last year, the aim of For Lanka’s 2017 charity dinner was to raise funds to provide 100 wheelchairs to cancer hospitals in Sri Lanka. I know all of you will be very happy to hear that we have been able to carry out this task, and the 100 wheel chairs were provided on different occasions to the following hospitals in Sri Lanka:
Apeksha Hospital Maharagama Badulla Teaching Hospital Kandy Teaching Hospital Urban Hospital Ududumbara Kurunegala Teaching Hospital Karapitiya Hospital Galle Base Hospital Thellipalai, Jaffna Provincial General Hospital Ratnapura Batticaloa Teaching Hospital Base Hospital Horana Sri Lanka Cancer Society Kandy and Anuradhapura General Hospital Maharagama
Your generosity also enabled us to accommodate additional requests from hospices for wheelchairs, and we have made the following donations:
Bikkhuviwekaramaya Hospice at Palatota, Kalutara 5 Wheelchairs Sujatha Elders Home and Hospice, Panadura 2 Wheelchairs Sudharmarama Home for Elders, Pallewela 3 Wheelchairs
The For Lanka Committee decided collectively about the buying and distributing the wheelchairs, and I have sent out some photographs of the handing over ‘ceremonies’. On every occasion, however small or big the donation was we can tell you that the overall reaction was of real appreciation from the hospitals/hospices. We have always passed on, from our hearts and thoughts, these thanks and blessings to each and every one of you. We can assure you that all the funds collected at the charity dinner went solely towards paying for and handing over the wheelchairs.
Also, during our various interactions in Sri Lanka, the committee members received many requests for other forms of assistance such as medicines, building of toilets, air mattresses, morphine drip regulators and more wheel chairs.
These have inspired us to organise a For Lanka Charity Dinner –2018 on Saturday, August 4th at the Roselea Community Centre, Carlingford.
Please contact any of us for your tickets @ $45.00 per person which includes a bottle of red and white wine per table of 10.
We look forward to yet another successful fund raiser, and in the process, having a fun filled evening because your participation is what enables For Lanka to deliver what the sick and needy in Sri Lanka have asked us for.
