This roughly translates to “the eel that escaped your hands is the biggest one”: an allegory for a missed opportunity. Sadly, too many Britons are missing out on the wonders of Sri Lanka – the country’s ancient temples, idyllic beaches, cultural riches and diverse wildlife are some of the greatest wonders of the world. But Britain’s own foreign office is needlessly deterring its citizens from visiting.
