PREMIER NAMES 2023 MULTICULTURAL CHAMPIONS The selflessness, care and passion of 16 individuals and community organisations have been recognised at the Premier’s annual Harmony Dinner in Sydney last night. Of those recognised, 12 received a Premier’s Multicultural Community Medal and one Highly Commended award, while three new members were added to the Honour Roll. MORE CULTURAL EVENTS AND FESTIVALS HEADING FOR LOCAL STREETS IN 2023 Another 122 community and not-for-profit groups will be able to host cultural celebrations in their local communities next year thanks to more funding awarded by the NSW Government. SENIORS’ STORIES TELL SPECIAL TALES OF DIVERSITY One hundred seniors who have put pen to paper to share their personal stories of diversity have been published in the latest edition of Seniors’ Stories. Seniors’ Stories is a writing competition aimed at celebrating the lives and contributions of seniors by giving them an opportunity to share their own short stories about their life experiences. MORE WAYS FOR SENIORS TO STAY CONNECTED More than 20 community-led programs have been funded by the NSW Government to empower seniors to be active and connected in their local communities. MORE YOUNG PEOPLE EMPOWERED TO STAND AGAINST HATE The NSW Government’s flagship program helping empower young people to fight racism and hate has nearly doubled in size, with ten new partnership projects joining the initiative. Each of the new partnership projects have been awarded a share in $1.6 million through the Community Partnership Action (COMPACT) program, to run projects specifically designed to help young people combat hate, racism, and divisive attitudes. REDUCING SOCIAL ISOLATION GRANTS NOW OPEN Local councils and not-for-profit organisations can now apply for funding to facilitate programs aimed at helping reduce social isolation among seniors.
