Paynter’s Portraits: Campbell and Senior-BY DILSHAN BOANGE Source:Sundayobserver In this second instalment about modern art treasures at Trinity College Kandy, I wish to discuss the portraits of Rev. John McLeod Campbell a former Principal of Trinity and Rev. Walter Senior a much celebrated Vice Principal and Chaplain of the school. These two portraits found on display at the Trinity College Library were painted by the late, great David Paynter, the Sri Lankan master artist of international fame, who was also an old boy of Trinity. The works are oil paintings done on canvas, as stated by the Curator of the Trinity College Archives Mrs. Thilini Dias Sumanasekera. These two works have not, unlike the ‘Fraser Couplet’, (on which I wrote last week) undergone restoration to the best of my knowledge. My Father Felix Reginald Sirimanne – Yashwanth Dahanayake Source:Lankagazette My Father Felix Reginald Sirimanne may have been born about the year 1902 or 3, and schooled in Trinity College, Kandy. My close friends have been telling me that I should be proud of the achievements of my Dad in school in excelling in the sports field in Boxing and Rugby, which my dad had never spoken about other than my seeing few cups displayed on a cupboard at home in Nugegoda. One thing that I still remember is that he had tattooed the Trinity College crest with lion on the left upper arm- quite a large one.
