It’s an honour to be here again at the Australia-Israel Chamber of Commerce. Last August as Treasurer I spoke about our ‘fair go economy’. I had planned to build on that theme today. But the acts of terrorism last Friday have caused me to pause, to reflect, and to take the opportunity today to have a different conversation. The Jewish people know what it’s like to be the victim of hate-speech, to be politically objectified. They know the evil of race based ideology – the banality of terrorism and that the real enemy is always hatred and intolerance.
