Australian pension must be granted for eligible Lankans living back here-by Senaka Weeraratna The law as it stands today requires an Australian living overseas to live in a ‘Treaty Country’ to qualify to receive the Australian pension. 31 countries have entered into Tax Treaties with Australia, but not Sri Lanka. India, a culturally compatible country has also done so. The failure of both Australia and Sri Lanka to conclude a viable Tax Treaty has caused prejudice to the rights and interests of pensioners of Australian-Sri Lankan heritage. More importantly to those who have left Australia for personal reasons and are unable to return to Australia to collect their retirement income. Several developed countries being the role models of governance and ethical administration e.g. the U.K., distribute their retirement pensions to whatever bank account in whatever country that is nominated by the pensioner. It is never too late for Australia to ...

UPALI DHARMADASA HOLDS THE KEY TO SRI LANKA’S CLAIM FOR UDRS AUTHORSHIP- by Shenali D Waduge Source:Onlanka In life just as there are challenges there are opportunities to undo injustices so that truth wins the day. The present situation revolves around a song, the singer, and the composer. The song is the player referral rule we know as the Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS), the singer is the International Cricket Council (ICC), the international governing body for cricket and the identity of the composer is the contentious issue at hand. There is one man who holds the key to another Sri Lankan staking the claim to the authorship of the UDRS and he is Mr. Upali Dharmadasa, the former President of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board. It was during his Presidency of the Board of Control for Cricket in 1997 that the initial player referral proposal (the lynchpin of the UDRS) ...

Who will investigate ICC’s wrongdoing and lapses?-by Shenali D Waduge   Source:Lankaweb Mr. Imran Khwaja, the Deputy Chair of the International Cricket Council (ICC), is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka today (May 9) on a 2-day fact-finding mission on political interference in cricket administration. It would be prudent for Mr. Khawaja and his team to also inquire into why ICC has been unwilling to give due recognition to a Sri Lankan for inventing the Decision Review System (DRS) which is internationally used in Cricket and several other types of sports. The person in question is lawyer Senaka Weeraratna who conceived the concept of ‘Player Referral’ in 1997. Yet, even after 26 years after his groundbreaking invention, he is pleading for justice and appealing for ICC recognition as it is his concept of ‘Player Referral’ which is the lynchpin of the Decision Review System. ...

The DRS inventor Senaka Weeraratna deserves a Plaque in his honour by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC)-BY SHENALI WADUGE Source:Shenaliwaduge The UDRS system is based on the concept of Player – Referral conceived by Senaka Weeraratna in 1997. Player Reviews and additional technology were first introduced in Test cricket to review controversial decisions made by the on-field umpires regarding dismissal of batsmen. Clearly, the world wide web identifies Senaka Weeraratna as the brainchild of the URDS system. Considering such growing international recognition of a Sri Lankan inventor, why is the premier cricket authority namely SLC (Sri Lanka Cricket) remaining totally silent? Not only that it appears to have even silenced the Cricket commentators on TV and Radio from speaking on the subject of the origins of the DRS, except on one solitary instance. ...
