Tharushi wins Gold in 800m Source:Dailynews 18-year-old Tharushi Karunarathna has won the gold medal in the women’s 800m at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou. She won the race with a timing of 2:03:20. Karunarathna broke from the pack with about 140m to go and dashed to the finish line ahead of India’ Bains Harmilan and China’s Chunyu Wang. Gayanthika Aberathna finished race in eighth with a timing of 2:05.87. This is the first gold medal for Sri Lanka at this year’s Asian games. This is also the first athletic gold medal for Sri Lanka at the Asian Games after the gold medals won by Susanthika Jayasinghe in 100m and Damayanthi Dharsha in 400m at the 2002 Busan Games.
