Sri Lanka’s Friendship Society (SLFS) in Hamilton, New Zealand, successfully hosted Pahan Tharu Rayak – Christmas Fiesta 2021 on December 18th 2021. At the heart of the Christian celebration are the stories surrounding the birth of Jesus. Most children are familiar with the elements of this story, like the appearance of angels, the experiences of Jesus’s parents, Mary and Joseph, and the wise men who followed the star to find Jesus on the night he was born. To exist in a multi-ethnic society, where different religions and ethnic groups inhabit and share their lives, it was heartwarming to witness other cultures and faiths join in celebrating this joyous occasion. UDULA BANDARA CROWNED WINNER in Sri Lankans Got Talent in NZ (SLGT in NZ) Sixteen-year old Udula Bandara from Hamilton was crowned winner of Sri Lankans Got Talent in New Zealand (SLGT in NZ) at the grand finale held at the Dorothy Winston Centre in Auckland recently. Live-streamed on Zoom in collaboration with Red Events Design, (SLGT in NZ) was an entertainment talent show spurring Sri Lankans across New Zealand to showcase their talent to the world. The contest was judged live by an expert panel of Sri Lankan artistes, with extensive knowledge of Sri Lankan music, dance and instruments, and the ability to provide feedback to the contestants but who remained anonymous in the preliminary rounds.
