The Door at Dusk: A Poem of the AGM – By Dr Harold Gunatillake
Before the hall could host its rite,
A storm arose in Sydney’s light—
The Sri Lanka Association’s name
Now caught in whispers, doubt, and flame.
Two stood to lead: one, learned, wise,
A lawyer with the committee’s ties;
The other, Saliya—bold and keen,
From circuits born, a business sheen.
The President, with guarded hand,
Let the loyal few within the stand.
She shut the door with silent might,
And barred the rest from joining right.
But fate, it seems, had other plans—
A member known for a noble stance
Arrived, unbowed, and swung the gate,
Let all who waited meet their fate.
Accusations filled the air:
Of ballots bent and dealings unfair.
The crowd grew fierce, their voices rose,
Demanding truth, the chairwoman froze.
She faltered, failed to calm the tide,
Then, flaring with rage, stepped aside.
The meeting broke, its purpose lost,
A December date for the final cost.
A new AGM for the SLA is scheduled for December 6th, 2025. We truly value your presence, as it will help bring the association back to its well-deserved prestigious standing.
