ST.PETERS’ COLLEGE OBA NSW     Background & History The St Peters College Old Boys Association of New South Wales held its inaugural meeting on the 24th of February, 1991, when 16 Old Peterites joined together to form the Association. Nalandians in Sydney During the British rule in Sri Lanka Buddhist parents were compelled to send their children to missionary schools. Sir Henry Olcott and Marie Musaeus, who were foreigners to the country, helped Buddhist leaders to fight for their rights and freedom. Ananda College Established… In 1886 Ananda College was established for Buddhist students. Ananda College attracted students from every part of the Island and in 1923 it’s infrastructure couldn’t cope with the demand. Birth of Nalanda Principle of Ananda College Mr. P De S Kularathne leased the land next to Ananda College’s Campbell Street playground and moved some junior classes of Ananda. OLD NALANDIANS ASSOCIATION OF AUSTRALIA (ONAA)     About Nalanda College Nalanda College Colombo is a government Buddhist school in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The college was established by P. S. Kularatne as an offshoot of Ananda College Colombo on the 1st of November 1925. In 1923, the then principal of Ananda College P. S. Kularatne leased land adjoining to Ananda College playground located in Campbell Place and used huts to accommodate students. This wing of the college was run by E. W. Perera. Later Kularatne bought lands close by and erected a building comprising 16 class rooms; two were used as laboratories and two others as the staff room and the principal’s office. On Ananda’s 39th anniversary on 1 November 1925 this wing was registered as a separate school. ANANDIANS’ OF NSW   About the Ananda College Old Boys’ Association (ACOBA) The Early Years Ananda College Old Boys’ Association (OBA) was established in 1908 under the guidance of late Sir D. B. Jayatilaka, the Principal at the time. As recorded in Ananda College Journal (inaugural issue) of 1914 the first secretary had been M.C. Raja. The names of J. Ratanasara and E.A. de S. Rupasinghe are mentioned as treasurers in the very early years. The main functions of the OBA in its infancy were to help the College to conduct the Annual Sports Meet and to arrange the Annual Dinner. Rs. 4 was payable as annual membership subscription. Life memberships were not available. Another event initiated during the early days was an Annual cricket encounter between the present cricketers and the past cricketers, followed by a lunch hosted by the Principal. Devi Balika Past Pupils Association Australia Inc.     About Us Inauguration The inauguration of the Association brings memories of meetings, a small group of enthusiastic Devians had in Melbourne, 2011 to discuss the idea of forming a Devi Alumni Association in Australia.
