Obituary: Mrs Mihindukulasuriya Beatrice Perera (Nee Fernando) (24 May 1924 – 3 Oct 2021) As explained by her son Claude Perera….I lost my beloved mother yesterday at the age of 97 years. She had a wonderful life with the love of a devoted husband and 3 mischievous rascals, who were Benedictines and a prim and proper girl who was a Shepherdian. Ammie was blessed with a wonderful early life of being a hosteler at Holy Family Convent, Kurunegala. Then after her marriage to my father, she enjoyed a bohemian life around Sri Lanka being in various outposts of the colonial government service where my father worked. All four siblings were born in such varied outposts, me being the youngest in Kandy. They moved to Colombo in the late 1950’s in search of better education for the children and mingled into humdrum of city life, where she remained till she passed. ...

OBITUARY IINEZ SOURJAH (6-10-1929- 8-9-2021) by Hugh Karunanayake It is with much sadness that I refer to the death of a dear friend, CSA member Inez Sourjah who  passed away in her sleep in the afternoon of 8 Septmber 2021. Inez was the dearly beloved wife of the late Dr Robert Sourjah who passed away last year. She was the mother of Rohan and Lalin. Rohan is of course the founding Hony Secretary of the Ceylon Society of Australia, a foundation member, who has rendered yeoman service in the formation of the Society nearly 25 years ago. I recall the pre-foundation dinners that were hosted by a small coterie of friends and fellow travellers in pursuit of memories and links with an almost forgotten country then called Ceylon. Rohan and his wife Deanne  hosted the third such dinner. Those get- togethers were to herald the formation of what is now known ...

Walter May – by Ernest Macintyre A GENTLE HUMAN  Few of Sri Lanka today may know of people who passed away recently and were much of that society long ago. And yet those still left who remember have urge to leave public record, as tribute. Walter May of Perth, Western Australia and of Ceylon till the 1960s, died peacefully a couple of weeks ago, in his ninetieth year. After a variegated childhood and fine records at Trinity College Kandy and St. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia he graduated with honours in History from the University of Ceylon with also an outstanding record as a national track athlete. He reached the ideal conveyed in the poetic expression, “ The Paragon of Animals” for by birth and upbringing he was gentle, dispossessed of envy, anger or harshness. My wife and I came to be a friends with his family when I joined the ...
