Aththanagalla Raja Maha Viharaya |අත්තනගල්ල රජ මහා විහාරය – By Nadeeka – eLanka The Aththanagalla Raja Maha Viharaya, also known as Aththanagalla Rajamaha Viharaya or Aththanagalla Temple, is a Buddhist temple located in the town of Aththanagalla in Sri Lanka. The temple holds historical and cultural significance in Sri Lanka. It is believed to have been built during the reign of King Walagamba (also known as Vattagamani Abhaya) in the 1st century BCE. The temple is said to have been constructed as a place of refuge for the king during times of political turmoil. The main feature of the Aththanagalla Raja Maha Viharaya is its ancient stupa, which is known as Aththanagalla Dagoba.
