“EGGS R EGGS” – By Des Kelly After I joined the Royal Ceylon Navy, in 1953, it wasn’t too long before I was “drafted” to H.M.Cy.S. Elara, in Karianagar, Jaffna, to serve a short term there. All good, excepting the fact that the “drinking water” was the next best thing to having a drink directly from the Indian Ocean, it was so salty, many of us would not have survived, had it not been the beer (my first experience of the Singaporean Tiger beer) that most of us guzzled down, instead of water. On top of that, our duty Cook Steward at the time, was hopeless.
