Pieter Gerald Bartholomeusz Keuneman who was born on October 3, 1917 is one of the founding members of the Sri Lanka Communist Party who represented Central Colombo electorate in Parliament from 1947-1977.Colombo Mayor Rosy Senanayake will garland the statue. Holland’s Legacy of Dutch Burghers-by Ananda Pieter Keuneman Source:Ceylon-Ananda One would have thought that all good Burghers when they die go to Holland, but unfortunately that is not the case. Now they prefer to go to Australia to live and leaven that vast continent with their traditional  contributions, spiced, I am sure, with a little bit of culture of Sri Lanka.  Regular globe-trotters tell me that it is not possible these days to walk through the streets of Melbourne or Sydney without hearing the crackle of kokis  or scenting the delicate aroma of breudher studded with a thousand raisins or  listening to the sweet sounds of things like fuggetti and poffertjes struggling  to be born. Comrade Sivaguru Ganesan Source:Island In the 1950s the HSC (later renamed GCE A-Level) was thought to be a challenging hurdle and few secured A-grades in four subjects – those seeking university entrance (there was only one university) offered three or four subjects. Of those admitted in July 1959 and sat the HSC in December 1958, I think only five in the whole Island secured four A-grades. One was Sivaguru Ganesan of Jaffna Hindu College who entered the prestigious Engineering Faculty of the University of Ceylon then located at Reid Avenue at the head of a 13-strong Jaffna Hindu contingent. More significant was that Ganesan was the only LSSP Full Party Member among the schoolboys admitted in 1959.
