Prof. Channa Jayasumana named among top scientists Source:Dailymirror Parliamentarian Prof. Channa Jayasumana is among 38 Sri Lankans in the Stanford-Elsevier classification of top scientists.  The database for the last exercise (10 Oct 2022) for citations in Scopus up to the end of 2021, was released last week.  This scientometrics exercise is an ongoing collaboration between Stanford University, USA and the well known publishers Elsevier. The database comprises the top 100,000 scientists by what is called a “c-score”; plus those within the top 2% of such c-scores in 176 sub-fields. ...

Covid-19 claims 71 more lives Source:Island Director General of Health Services (DGHS) last night reported that Covid-19 claimed the lives of 71 persons. With that the total number of deaths rose to 2,704, the DGHS stated. State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana responsible for procurement of Covid-19 vaccines said that in spite of some shortcomings the inoculation drive was continuing in several parts of the country. Sputnik-V vaccination begins in Gothatuwa The first phase of the Russian Sputnik COVID-19 vaccine program for those between 30 to 60 years of age from Gothatuwa, Colombo yesterday – Pic by Pradeep Pathirana  Source:FT Vaccination of persons in the Gothatuwa MOH area began yesterday with the use of the 15,000 doses of the Sputnik-V vaccine the country received on 4 May. A vaccination centre was set up in the Madinnagoda Purana Rajamaha Viharaya and State Minister of Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation Prof. Channa Jayasumana said the vaccine is recommended for persons below the age of 60 and has to be administered in two doses.
