Dickie Juriansz I just received the sad news from his wife, Annabelle, that Dickie Juriansz  passed away peacefully at 2.00 a.m. this morning. Funeral arrangements will be notified later.  I visited him last Sunday evening at the ICU of Kings Hospital. His condition was poorly.  He was Chairman of the Colombo Tea Traders’ Association (CTTA) in the years 1982, 1994, 1995 and 2000, and was an Honorary Member of the CTTA.   ...

A tribute to our beloved son and one of a kind human being – By Marie Wambeek Vernon Glen Wambeek was our eldest son, named after his father Vernon however everyone knew him as Glen. He studied at Wesley College in Colombo where he ended up becoming a prefect. He was into various sports including Rugby, Cricket and Athletics, in addition to being a Judo National Champion. He also took part in school plays; his most memorable role was when he played Julius Caesar in a Shakespearean Drama Competition which he ended up winning. Glen moved to Australia in 1977 and started his career in the hotel industry, eventually opening up his own restaurant in Crows Nest known as the ‘Rangoon Racquet Club’. OBITUARY – PROF RAJA C BANDARANAYAKE – (4 April 1935 – 18 Jan 2024 – By   Hugh Karunanayake PROF RAJA BANDARANAYAKE Three months ago, I received an email from Dr Raja Bandaranayake, stating that he was just diagnosed with MND or motor neurone disease. That was shocking news to me, but typified his honesty and open attitude to life.,  Professor Raja Bandaranayake the internationally renowned medical educator passed away on  18 January just a few months short of his 89 th birthday. Born in Kandy, Raja had most of his secondary education at St Thomas College, Mount Lavinia, from where he entered the Faculty of Medicine in Colombo. On passing his medical degree, he was appointed demonstrator at the Colombo University followed by a spell of about five years as lecturer in the University of Ceylon in Peradeniya.
