Goodbye Desmond Brohier, A True Family Man And Friend For Life – By Lawrence Machado Some friendships last for lifetime and so it was with Desmond Brohier, a one-in-a-million friend. My heart is breaking as I pen these lines to farewell him from this world. I know he is not in pain anymore and he died in his sleep in his own bed, which is a blessing. Yet, the ache is there. It will be much more for his grieving son Shannon, Mum, siblings Jerome and Elorine, and their families. But I am consoled we never lost touch despite being oceans apart and you are at peace now. Cedric Dirckze is no more – by Trevine Rodrigo (eLanka) Sri Lanka expatriate musicians mourn the passing of another of the talented entertainer’s of the past, Cedric Dirckze. Just last month Bommer White of the Red Dragons left us for that faraway place now Cedric Dirckze who was the bass guitarist of the famous Claude and the Sensations. The popular band toured India and Germany and Cedric was a key member on guitar and vocals. His passing was sudden and he leaves doting wife Arlene and son Rudy. The funeral service will take place at Our Lady of help parish in Narre Warren on Thursday January 18. A viewing and rosary will be on Wednesday at 7 p. m. at the same church. ...

OBITUARY Dr AHMED NAISZ HANIFFA 9 JANUARY 1935 – 7 DECEMBER 2023 It is with much sadness that I refer to the death of Dr AN Haniffa who I have known for the past nearly eighty years. Affectionately called “Hani” or even “Honey” he was one of three Moor boys who entered Royal College in 1946. The two others viz Hussein Ismeth Rahim aka Tooty, Jehan Raheem, have both predeceased him. Dr AN aniffa Haniffa on completing his education at Royal College, entered the Ceylon Medical College following in the footsteps of elder brother MN Haniffa who was a year senior to us in school. I know that the elder brother represented Royal at Rugby, and I have a faint recollection of Hani too playing rugby for Royal. Both brothers passed out as doctors in the mid to late nineteen fifties.
