Our Women’s T 20 team needs a complete revamp after the WC debacle. – By Sunil Thenabadu Sri Lanka’s  team’s performance at the T20 World Cup could be described as “not acceptable” a consequence of skill “failing us” after we were completely  knocked out of the tournament .It is a pity for the Asian Champions to be classified as the worst out of the ten teams that participated, even performing worst than the minnows Scotland who has had a better record been a team that resisted against the better teams in their  group. Sri Lanka have lost all of their four matches in the World Cup, hence obviously cannot advance from  the group after coming into the event with the expectation they could go to semi finals after an impressive last 20 months having crowned as the Asia cup champions. Since the last T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka had won ...

High riding Sri Lankans shot down in T20 World Cup.  Disappointing campaign sends them home winless. – BY TREVINE RODRIGO IN MELBOURNE.  (eLanka Sports Editor) Sri Lanka’s women basked in the glory of an Asia Cup triumph, then were rudely awoken to the reality of the fluctuating fact of life,  by being dumped out of the World Cup winless.  The high riding Lankans began with a shock loss to Pakistan then were thrashed by top contenders Australia and India before their fate was sealed by New Zealand, all but Australia, who they beat on previous tours recently.  Chamari Athapaththu failed in this instance and all around her crashed in domino effect to end a campaign high on expectation and anticipated but disappointing in the end.  The brains thrust  of Sri Lanka’s campaign failed when it mattered in their ‘group of death’ where their recent success was under the microscope to ...

Sri Lanka batters squander chances of a winning start against Pakistan in T20 World Cup opener. – BY TREVINE RODRIGO IN MELBOURNE. (eLanka Sports Editor) Sri Lanka’s women made a inauspicious start to their T20 World Cup campaign as their batting failed handing Pakistan a 31 run victory in Sharjah. Touted a challenger to the top runners to win the tournament but drawn to play in the “Group of death”, Chamari Athapaththu’s Asia Cup champions made a spirited start by dismissing Pakistan for 116. But their batters, including skipper Athapaththu folded in inexplicable fashion to lose 9 for 85 on a slow tricky wicket, ending with a disappointing result. Athapaththu’s failure triggered a procession as regular contributors Vishmi Gunaratne 20, Harshita Samarawickrema and Kavisha Dilhari fell cheaply. Only two batters made double figures. ‘Be fearless, don’t play safe’ – Ratnayake spells out SL’s mantra-by Shashank Kishore Source:Espncricinfo Sri Lanka have been on an unprecedented high. The team hasn’t looked in a better shape than they are currently, having come off a historic first-ever series win in England followed by the Asia Cup triumph. There’s boisterous energy around the group that stems from “having walked the talk” in the words of Rumesh Ratnayake, their head coach, ahead of their women’s T20 World Cup opener against Pakistan in Sharjah. In February 2023, weeks before the previous T20 World Cup in South Africa, Ratnayake was summoned from the academy to steer a team that appeared to have been stuck in a rut of insipid results and lack of direction within the leadership. Ratnayake wasn’t sure if he’d continue for long, but a week of being with the team convinced him there was enough to work with. Sri ...

Irish Women beat Sri Lankans in Nail-biting ODI Match in Ireland-by Michael Roberts Source:Thuppahis Late at night in Adelaide I followed the last few overs in their internet written form in the absence of TV media footage. Prendergast was unstoppable and clearly unflappable.   Chamari had failed in batting for once and the Irish may have benefited from home advantage.  Outcome is good for cricket. OLGA PRENDERGAST”s photo defied copying !@#! Report in the Island … because ESPN has removed theirs !@#! Orla Prendergast pulled off a stunning heist, picking up 3 for 25 and following it up with an unbeaten 122 off 107 balls as Ireland beat Sri Lanka by three wickets in the first ODI in Dublin. Sri Lanka women’s crowning moment of glory as they grab the Asia Cup. Fantastic captain marvellous Chamari Athapaththu leads from the front.  BY TREVINE RODRIGO IN MELBOURNE.  (eLanka Sports Editor) Sri Lanka’s women cricketers dared to dream,  and then proved that dreams do come true as they sensationally grabbed the Asia Cup from a previously dominant India.  For a country that is dealing with much economically,  and struggling to raise its head, a little ray of sunshine swept across the Island nation putting everything else on hold as Chamari Athapaththu and her team jubilantly held aloft the prestigious Asian women’s cricketing plum. Rangiri Dambulla stadium will be remembered with nostalgia as the venue for a cricketing heist, as Sri Lanka’s women defied all logic to turn tables on Asia’s proven best team, second only to Australia in the world game.  Set an imposing target of 165 for victory, Sri Lanka ...

Sri Lanka scramble into Asia Cup final in much anticipated clash with India.  Athapaththu leads from the front in nail biting win over Pakistan.  – BY TREVINE RODRIGO IN MELBOURNE. Sri Lanka scampered into the final of the Asia Cup after a pulsating 3 -wicket semi- final win against Pakistan in Dambulla.  The feisty Lankans who have hit a rich vein of success recently, rammed home their winning culture to snatch a nail biting victory with a ball to spare. But the win over the highly rated  Pakistanis did not come easy after Pakistan set them a competitive 140 for victory then grabbed two quick wickets to send tremors through the Sri Lankan camp.  Opener Vishmi Gunaratne departed in the second ball of the innings for a duck and soon it was 2 for 19 when Harshita Samarawickrema departed for 12 when Sri Lanka’s skipper turned adversity to a personal ...
