The world’s best women’s cricket players are coming to Drummoyne Oval on November 17 as the headline act in a Cricket & Culture Festival hosted by Western Sydney’s favourite sporting club, Sydney Thunder.

Thunder stars Chamari Athapaththu and Phoebe Litchfield will square off against Sydney Sixers legends Ellyse Perry and Alyssa Healy in the Sydney Smash – the second match of the double header, following the clash between Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars that will feature Indian superstars Deepti Sharma, Yastika Bhatia, Jemimah Rodrigues and Shikha Pandey.

Right outside the doorstep to Drummoyne Oval, on Taplin Park, Thunder will host a Cricket & Culture Festival, including great food & drink options, Bhangra dancers, Bollywood dancing classes, mascots, inflatables, live DJ, henna and face painting, tape ball games, Woolworths Cricket Blast clinic and skills area, rock climbing wall and the Women’s T20 World Cup Trophy on display.

The Cricket & Culture Festival furthers Thunder’s commitment to the people of Western Sydney and with the presence of Athapaththu, Sharma, Bhatia, Rodrigues and Pandey, the South Asian communities of the region.

Athapaththu, the player of the tournament in the WBBL last season, said the day was shaping as a must do for cricket fans and those new to the game alike.

“Sydney Thunder are committed to growing their fan base in Western Sydney and they have a very strong connection to the South Asian community,” Athapaththu said.

“I am really excited to stop by the Cricket & Culture Festival outside the oval on my way into the ground. I hope lots of people can come along and enjoy the activities there and watch some cricket at the same time.”

Athapaththu, the Sri Lankan captain, will have a special section for her fans – the Chamari Bay – on the day at Drummoyne, as well as at the clash between Thunder and the Sixers at the SCG on Sunday November 10. Tickets to the Chamari Bay can be accessed HERE via the code CHAMARI. The code will also provide a 20% discount on tickets.
