GOOD FRIDAY – By Charles Schokman SHOUT OF TRIUMPH JESUS DIED THAT WE MIGHT LIVE. Today’s Scripture: John 19:28-37                                                                                                 It is finished! —John 19:30 Recently I read about Aron Ralston, a hiker who was trapped alone at the bottom of a remote canyon. With scant hope of being found and his strength ebbing away, he had to take drastic measures to save his life. During a moment of excruciating pain, he shouted in agony and in victory, because he had freed himself and now had a chance to escape and live. Those who witnessed the crucifixion of Jesus saw His hours of agony ...

SUNDAY CHOICE – PRAISE THE LORD – He took my place at Calvary – by Charles Schokman The concept of Jesus taking on the sins of the world is central to Christian theology, and is supported by scriptures likeJohn 1:29 (“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world”) and 1 John 2:2 (“He is the propitiation for our sins, and not forours only but also for the sins of the whole world”).  Here’s a more detailed explanation: John 1:29: John the Baptist, upon seeing Jesus, declared, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”. This phrase identifies Jesus as the ultimate sacrifice, the one who atones for the sins of humanity. 1 John 2:2: This verse reinforces the idea that Jesus is the atoning sacrifice for the sins of the world, not just for the sins of believers, but for all of humanity.  Let this hymn ...

SUNDAY CHOICE – A PARENT’S RESPONSIBILITY – By Charles Schokman In a world that’s becoming ever more materialistic, in a world where both parents and children, more and more, draw their values from what they see on their phones than from their family, what does it mean to actually bless your children? I don’t know a single parent who doesn’t want their children to be blessed. In fact, my strong suspicion is that somehow, God’s hardwired us as parents, to want to bless our children. We can’t help ourselves. But we live in a world with a distorted view of blessing. The more affluent a society becomes, the more “blessing our kids” seems to mean running them to every possible activity after school and on weekends, making sure they have all the latest gadgets and toys and designer fashions. In fact, when we don’t do those things, we start feeling guilty. I ...

NEW BORN FAITH (Litmus test) – By Lakshman Navaratne But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. 17 Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.” 18 When Naomi realized that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped urging her. Ruth 1:16 NEW BORN FAITH (Litmus test) Our Mothers are Pure, individually preprogrammed, and uniquely made by our Maker. No one is born to this earth without a mother! When Eve was made from Adam, God lined up all humanity in Eve. God made the woman with exact number of eggs he shall copulate with a Father-sperm, at the exact moment of the Chronological clock. ...

SUNDAY CHOICE – The Jesus Story – By Charles Schokman Our Daily Bread — The Jesus Story Read 1 John 1:1-5 The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it. 1 John 1:2 Most people have never heard of Kate Hankey, but she was a remarkable woman. A teacher, evangelist, school organizer, missionary, and poet, she faithfully served Jesus in 1800s England. In 1867, Kate contracted a serious illness. During her recovery, she penned a lengthy poem in two parts: “The Story Wanted” and “The Story Told.” The poem expresses in a very personal way her relationship with Jesus and the events of His life. All Scripture points to Jesus and tells His story. John begins his epistle reminding readers how they had personally experienced Jesus: “That which . . . we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we ...

An Inspirational Message for the New Year January 2025 – Jesus: The Bread of Life – By Charles Schokman Intention  To joyfully discover that Jesus is eternally satisfying and turn to Him rather than sin. Scripture “‘I am the bread of life’, Jesus told them. ‘No one who comes to me will ever be hungry, and no one who believes in me will ever be thirsty again.’ “‘Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.’ “‘I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread he will live forever.’”– John 6:35, 47, 51  One of the deepest desires of the human heart is to be satisfied. We may call it joy, calmness, or peace. The problem is when we try and find satisfaction in the wrong places. Instead of looking to God, we look to the things He has made (something the Bible calls idolatry). This could include food, sex, ...

THE LOST WARRANTY AND THE ANTIDOTE FOR DECAY – By Lakshman Navaratne “And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourself this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the river, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”. Joshua 24:15 EXCHANGING YOUR CROSS WITH A CROWN As born-again Christians; the Lord that operates in our lives is the God of Joshua, we shall receive him into our hearts only once in our life-time. The first experience we have with the written “Word”, every sin we need to confess is removed and our hearts become pure, Psalm 103 “who forgives all your iniquities and remembers no more”. The spirit that lives in you will never let you sin ...

SUNDAY CHOICE – A Parable of a Wedding Banquet – By Charles Schokman THE Parable of the Wedding Banquet. Matthew 22: 1- 14 Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying: 2 “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son.3 He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come. 4 “Then he sent some more servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’5 “But they paid no attention and went off—one to his field, another to his business 6 The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them. 7 The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned ...

SUNDAY CHOICE – Our Hearts Always Hunger For – By Charles Schokman “And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace!” – Isaiah 9:6 The prophet Isaiah describes the coming Messiah above with these words, “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace!” Jesus is the embodiment and fulfillment of this prophecy. He is the most wonderful counselor. He is sympathetic to our weaknesses and so understanding of our failings and fallings. Jesus invites us “to approach [his] throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:14-16). Do you need mercy and grace and peace this morning? “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). Isaiah calls the Messiah (Jesus) Mighty God and Everlasting Father. Jesus, in essence, declared Himself to be God ...
