Abbotsleigh Estate of Hatton Plantations conducted donations worth of 4Million for deserving students in Hatton – By Nisal Rukshan The Abbotsleigh estate of the G&G group of companies, Hatton Plantations, is situated in the central province in the Nuwara Eliya district, closer to Hatton. The majority of the population living in the suburbs of this estate are daily-wage labourers. Many school students in these needy families are having hardships due to a lack of school accessories. By considering these needs, the Abbotsleigh estate donated school accessories worth 4 million recently as a Corporate Social (CSR). The donation programs were held in simple arrangements at a few selected, convenient locations where those beneficiaries were able to attend without hindering educational or other commitments. 550 school students in the Abbotsleigh area benefited from this program. We spent 15 days on a road trip across this awe-inspiring country exploring the lush emerald tea plantations, pristine beaches and stunning mountains and plains. Our trip took us to the northern city of Jaffna, via the mesmerizing Anuradhapura. We explored the beautiful landscapes of Kandalama and climbed the epic Sigiriya rock. We drove south to the beautiful Nuwara Eliya and stayed at the breathtaking 98 acres resort in Ella. We experienced a safari in Yala and had some well earned R&R at the beach town of Mirissa followed by exploration of the charming historical town of Galle. Nil Garunda Rock – unique rock deposit By Arundathie Abeysinghe Located in the remote hamlet of Rupaha in Walapane in Nuwara Eliya District approximately 74 kilometers from Kandy, Nil Garunda Gala (meaning Nil Garunda Rock also known as Marble Rock or Serpentine Rock) is a unique rock deposit, considered as the only such rock deposit in South Asia. Some scholars are of the view that there is no such type of rock anywhere in the world. Although, Nil Garunda Rock is similar to *Rose Quartz Mountain Range in Namal Uyana, this is a relatively unknown and rarely visited sight.
