The Legend – Shane Warne – by Quintus de Zylva   Shane Warne reached the magical figure of 700 wickets before he retired from cricket. Murali went past him and then retired. Shane always acknowledged the fact that Murali took more wickets . They were close friends. Shane flew to Sri Lanka soon after the tsunami and visited the Galle Cricket Ground with Murali – arriving there by helicopter which landed on the iconic cricket ground. SUJITH MADHUSHANKA – Medical Student – Kandy by Quintus de Zylva   SUJITH has just been selected for entry to the Sri Jayawardnepura Medical Faculty. He was a student at Dharmarajah College in Kandy. He was in the Biology stream and received a scholarship from DAANAL – the Dharmarajah Alumini Association of North America. He was introduced to us by Rev. Buddadatha Thero – a priest at Bahirawakande – Kandy. His father is a retired Army Officer and his mother a housewife. Sujith supported himself by tutoring students in Kandy. He has asked for a laptop or i-pad and we are grateful to a generous donor from Moorabbin who has provided us with one. AUSLMAT has extended our medical work in Sri Lanka to include support of students in need.   ...

Sri Lanka Cricket on a high by Quintus de Zylva Thilanga and Samadara Sumathipala have been the strength behind Sri Lanka’s emergence as a T20 force to be reckoned with. The manner in which they humbled Australia at the MCG and in Geelong must surely have sent shivers up Cricket Australia. Thilanga and Samadara nursed Lasith back in to a state in which he could believe in himself and provide the backbone to the team for inspiring successes in T20 cricket. His toe-crushing yorkers will be spoken about for many a year to come. Sri Lanka’s cricketing High Commissioner – Skanda – has also been an inspiration to the team and the country – he was at the helm some years ago when the ICC were impressed by the good governance that Sri Lanka showed in getting things together. Dr. Jennifer Johns AM will lead the Auslamat team to Sri Lanka in 2017 – by Quintus de Zylva Dr. Jennifer Johns Cardiologist at AUSTIN HEALTH will lead the medical team to Sri Lanka on our 29th post-tsunami visit from the end of June 2017. Dr Jennifer was honoured with a Member of the Order of Australia AM in last year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours. We will visit Hatton/Dickoya, Batticaloa/Valaichennai, Yala/Beralihela, Matara/Akuressa and the Karapitiya teaching hospital Galle. Cardiology will be the focus of attention at the teaching hospitals in Sri Lanka. We have cardiac equipment for Dr. Arulnithy and Dr. Sathanathan at the cath labs at Batticaloa and Galle. Lectures to the Galle Medical Society and final year medical student lectures at Karapitiya form part of the activity at Galle. We will also be doing many general medical clinics and will visit orphanages at Batticaloa and Hatton. We welcome anyone ...
