SUNDAY CHOICE – Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation – by Charles Schokman 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation;  old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Being a child Everyone understands what it means to be a child – we have been born from a mother and father. As babies and toddlers we are completely dependent on our parents – to love us feed us, teach us and help us to grow into responsible adults. God created us all and so we are all children of God. But sadly we have all rebelled and sin has broken our relationship with the Father. God is continually calling out to his children to return to Him, so that the father/child relationship can be restored. John 3:3 says “unless you are born again you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven”. Nicodemus, the man to whom Jesus ...

SUNDAY CHOICE – HOLD ON WITH YOUR PRAYER—NEVER GIVE UP – by Charles Schokman “One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.” Luke 18:1 (NLT) Psalm 5:3, “Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.” (NLT) 1 Thessalonians 5:17, “Never stop praying.” (NLT) A TESTIMONY SHEILA WALSH I was 38 years old when Barry and I were married. Because of my age, we took the business of getting pregnant very seriously, but as happens to many women, each passing month was another disappointment. For the first time in my life, I found myself longing for a child. I prayed and prayed and prayed. Then it happened. When I saw the positive sign on the pregnancy test, I dropped it. It lay wrong-way up on the bathroom floor, and I was ...

SUNDAY CHOICE – Are You Adoptable? – by Charles Schokman One of my favorite activities is to visit our local animal shelter. A bittersweet tug on my heart, as I would love to scoop up and take a bunch of the animals home with me, yet I know that reality tells me I can not. So, my time spent is mostly conversing with and petting the animals that I can. There is one large dog there named, Otis, who is NOT up for adoption. I believe the Lord used this dog to teach me a valuable lesson. When I first started coming to the shelter to visit with the animals, Otis would always growl, bark and sometimes lunge at the cage. It didn’t matter how much I would try to talk to him, he was still very stand-offish. Soon, I gave up trying and kept my distance as to not cause him ...

SUNDAY CHOICE – GOD’S CREATION – by Charles Schokman All things bright and beautiful, All creatures great and small, All things wise and wonderful, . ‘Twas God that made them all. Each little flower that opens, Each little bird that sings, He made their glowing color, He made their tiny wings. The purple headed mountains, The river running by,  The sunset and the morning    That brightens up the sky. The cold wind in the winter  The pleasant summer sun,    The ripe fruits in the garden,   He made them every one. He gave us eyes to see them And lips that we might tell,  How great is the Almighty, Who has made all things well. Just ponder on this hymn (Raise the volume) Are mindless, selfish humans destroying this priceless world and all the wonderful creatures in it? ...

SUNDAY CHOICE – No Greater Love – by Charles Schokman This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends – John 15:12-13  We are to love each other as Jesus loved us, and he loved us enough to give his life for us. We may not have to die for someone, but there are other ways to practice sacrificial love: listening, helping, encouraging, giving. Think of someone in particular who needs this kind of love today. Give all the love you can, and then try to give a little more. What a heart touching song— Pray this clip will be a Blessing to you this Easter. You are welcome to pass this on ...

SUNDAY CHOICE – What Does It Mean That Jesus Died For Me? – by Charles Schokman Jesus died for you because He loves you: “the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20). Jesus died for you so that He, in your place, would bear God’s anger on your sin: “Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood”, (Romans 3:24-25). Jesus died for you so there would be no condemnation for you: “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus… Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died”, (Romans 8:1,34). Jesus died for you to forgive your sins: “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins”, (Matthew 26:28). Jesus died for you to reconcile you with God: “were reconciled to God by the death of his Son”, (Romans 5:10). Jesus died for you so you would ...

SUNDAY CHOICE – Thank you Jesus for the blood applied – by Charles Schokman Thank you Jesus for the blood applied. An important element of life with God: that we thank him for his past work and his continual work. As Christians, there are some obvious things we can be thankful for. Jesus’s atoning death on the cross that has brought salvation. One day we will go to heaven. We have a relationship with God. But what about what God is doing now? Philippians 1:3–6 ESV                                                                                                                                        ...

SUNDAY CHOICE – He did it with you in mind – A Message for Lent – by Charles Schokman Pray this hymn will be a blessing to you. They made a crown out of thorn branches and placed it on His head.’ Matthew 27:29 CEV The hymnist Isaac Watts wrote; ‘See from His head, His hands, His feet, sorrow and love flow mingled down. Did e’er such love and sorrow meet, or thorns compose so rich a crown?’ Jesus wore a crown of thorns so you could wear a crown of glory. Thorns in Scripture represent sin. In Eden when Adam and Eve disobeyed, God said, ‘Cursed is the ground because of you… both thorns and thistles it will grow for you.’(Genesis 3:17–18 NASB) Later He told Israel that unless they purged the land of their enemies, ‘they will be like… thorns in your sides.’(Numbers 33:55 NCV) Solomon cautioned: ‘Corrupt people walk a thorny, treacherous road.’ (Proverbs 22:5 NLT) And Jesus warned, ‘You ...

SUNDAY CHOICE – JESUS, KEEP ME NEAR THE CROSS – by Charles Schokman   How many of us can sing by heart the words of the song that starts “Jesus, keep me near the cross”? Can you recall the next few lines? More than just a song, it’s a much-needed prayer for Christians. Too many of us have an incomplete understanding of what happened when Jesus willingly embraced the cross and died upon it. We tend to think of the cross as a way for us to get more of God’s goodies, the ticket, as it were, to our best life now. Of course, there is a degree of truth in that notion: without the death of God’s Son, you and I would still be in our sins, and therefore rightfully under God’s wrath. But there’s more, so much more to it. When Jesus suffered on the cross He was ...

SUNDAY CHOICE – As for me and my house – by Charles Schokman “Christ is the Head of this House, the Unseen guest at every meal, the Silent listener to every Conversation.” “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”-Joshua 24:15 “The above two passages to most of us are popular. It’s printed on plaques, found on old reclaimed pallet wood, printed on the front of Bibles, and even hand-painted on walls of homes. It adorns Christian homes in many aspects because it is a statement of faith, an affirmation of a family’s commitment and covenant to serve the Lord.  My dad in his ministry would often quote—“It is the duty of every parent to bring up their children in the knowledge and love of God” This showed the importance of placing God first in our lives. When a Christian father posts a wall hanging saying “as for me and ...
