HE WILL CARRY YOU – SUNDAY CHOICE – The Storms of Life “You may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith . .  may result in praise, glory and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed. 1 Peter 1:6-7 In the book of Mark we read about a terrible storm. The disciples were with Jesus on a boat crossing the Sea of Galilee. When a “furious squall came up,” the disciples—among them some seasoned fishermen—were afraid for their lives (4:37-38). Did God not care? Weren’t they handpicked by Jesus and closest to Him? Weren’t they obeying Jesus who told them to “go over to the other side”? (v. 35). Why, then, were they going through such a turbulent time? No one is exempt from the storms of life. But just as the disciples who initially feared the storm later came to ...

BY LOVE SERVE ONE ANOTHER SUNDAY CHOICE “And if I donate all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but do not have love, I gain nothing.” 1 Corinthians 13:3(HCSB) .. After taking the pieces for my special-order table from the box and laying them out before me, I noticed something wasn’t quite right. The beautiful top for the table and other parts were accounted for, but it was missing one of the legs. Without all of the legs, I couldn’t assemble the table, rendering it useless.   It’s not just tables that are useless when missing one vital piece. In the book of 1 Corinthians, Paul reminded his readers that they were missing one essential component. The believers possessed many spiritual gifts but lacked love.     Using exaggerated language to emphasize his point, Paul wrote that even if his readers had all knowledge, ...

SUNDAY CHOICE – I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry. God is a covenant-keeping God. He is faithful to His promises. We as imperfect earthly parents, but as far as possible, we honour our promises to our children. How much more does our heavenly Father who is perfect and loves us perfectly! For every problem, burden, need, and circumstance, God has made you promises of His faithfulness:– “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ. And so through him the ‘Amen’ is spoken by us to the glory of God,” 2 Corinthians 1:20.  “So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these ...

SUNDAY CHOICE – A Life of Integrity The integrity of the upright guides them. Proverbs 11:1–3   Abel Mutai, a Kenyan runner competing in a grueling international cross-country race, was mere yards from victory—his lead secure. Confused by the course’s signage and thinking he’d already crossed the finish line, however, Mutai stopped short. The Spanish runner in second place, Ivan Fernandez Anaya, saw Mutai’s mistake. Rather than take advantage and bolt past for the win, however, he caught up to Mutai, put out his arm and guided Mutai forward to a gold-medal win. When reporters asked Anaya why he purposefully lost the race, he insisted that Mutai deserved the win, not him. “What would be the merit of my victory? What would be the honor of that medal? What would my mom think of that?” As one report put it: “Anaya chose honesty over victory.” Proverbs says that those who ...

SUNDAY CHOICE I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5 ESV. “Sometimes life can just feel like too much. Too much to do. Too much to think about. Too much to process. At the same time, it can feel like it’s not enough. Not enough time in the day, energy in the body and money in the bank. Here’s the truth: Without Jesus, we don’t have enough. There is nothing that we can do without Him. Jesus tells us: “apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5 ESV) This sounds extreme but here’s the good news; when we abide in Him, He also abides in us. Although we can do nothing without Him, that is never a concern for he that believes in ...

SUNDAY CHOICE – A Soldiers’ Conversion (found on the body of an American Soldier during World War I)  “Lord God, I have never spoken to you, but now I want to say how do you do?    You see God they told me you didn’t exist,  and like a fool I believed all this.    Last night from a shell hole I saw your sky,  I figured right then they had told me a lie.    Had I take time to see the things you made, I would have known they weren’t calling a spade a spade.    I wonder God if you’ll take my hand,  somehow I feel that you’ll understand.    Funny how I had come to this hellish place, before I had time to see your face.    I guess there really isn’t much more to say,  but I’m sure glad God that I met you today.    I ...

SUNDAY CHOICE What does it mean- the longer I serve him the sweeter He grows? “When people say that Jesus lives in their hearts, it doesn’t mean the heart that pumps blood through your body.  The “heart” of a person is the center of who he or she is. Sometimes when people say “heart,” they mean the deepest part of a person. For example, you might have heard someone say they have a broken heart. That doesn’t mean his actual beating heart is broken; it means the person is very sad deep down. Some people say Jesus is in their heart to mean that Jesus is living spiritually in the center, or deepest part, of their life.  Every one of us is a sinner, and we need to be saved from our sin before we can have a relationship with God. Jesus, God’s Son, came to earth to be our ...

SUNDAY CHOICE -The Lord’s Prayer This week, we’re learning about how God would like us to pray. Even Jesus’ closest friends, the disciples, wanted to know how to pray. The disciples were with Jesus all the time and were with Him when He went to pray and heard his prayers to God, as well, yet they still weren’t sure how they were supposed to do it. So Jesus gave them the Lord’s Prayer. Before Jesus teaches the prayer, He says that we should keep our prayers simple. God listens to us no matter if our prayers are long or short. Even if you don’t have the right words, God knows what we mean without having to use fancy words. Jesus also says that we shouldn’t show off’ when we pray. He said this especially to the people that used to stand on the street corners praying, so that everyone would ...

SUNDAY CHOICE – “WAIT” Desperately, helplessly, longingly, I cried, Quietly, patiently, lovingly God replied. I pled and I wept for a clue to my fate, And the Master so gently said, “Child, you must wait.” “Wait?  You say, wait? ” my indignant reply. “Lord, I need answers, I need to know why! Is your hand shortened? Or have you not heard? By Faith, I have asked, and I am claiming your Word. My future and all to which I can relate Hangs in the balance, and YOU tell me to “WAIT”? I’m needing a ‘yes’, a go-ahead sign, Or even a ‘no’ to which I can resign. And Lord, You promised that if we believe We need but to ask, and we shall receive. And Lord, I’ve been asking, and this is my cry: I’m weary of asking!  I need a reply! Then quietly, softly, I learned of my fate As my ...
