Bible verses about peace— What does the Bible say about peace in hard times?
Even before Covid there was so much to be worried about: climate change, terrorism, wars, personal circumstances. Now with a worldwide pandemic, lockdowns and so many deaths and personal changes, life can just seem overwhelming.
It’s important to remember that the Bible promises peace to those who trust God. And sometimes that means more than just reading the words and thinking, “that’s nice”. It’s about reading the words, believing them and then acting accordingly.
You may have heard of, or read, the Bible verses from Philippians 4:6-7:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”
But read what comes before these verses in vs 4-5:
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near”.
And after in verses 8-9:
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”
Along with clinging onto the promise of peace which “transcends all understanding“, there are actions to take that will help you attain that peace: they seem so simple but can be so hard when you’re going through difficult times – but persevere!

• think about good things.
