Sri Lanka need to qualify for a berth in Group 1, to enter Super 12 – T20 WC – by Sunil Thenabadu in Brisbane    The T20 WC is scheduled between 17th October and 14th November in UAE and Oman will be the seventh edition of ICC WC T 20 which began in year 2007.Sri Lanka had won in year 2014 and twice in 2009 and 2012 been the runners up. But unfortunately in this edition Sri Lanka owing to low rankings of the ICC has to qualify to be included in Group A which includes Namibia,The Netherlands and Ireland.The  two top seeds from Group A will enter Group 1 of the Super 12 stage along with Australia,England, South Africa and West Indies. Hanguranketha – refuge of Kandyan Kings By Arundathie Abeysinghe Situated off the beaten track and rarely visited by local as well as foreign tourists, charm, beauty and solitude pervade Hanguranketha, the spectacular tiny hamlet in the Central Highlands. According to scholars, Hanguranketha is derived from “Sangaruwan ketha” (meaning thriving paddy fields in Sinhala). Steeped in history and legend and situated approximately 29 kilometers southeast of Kandy City, kings had used Hanguranketha during the Kandyan Kngdom as a refuge when the hill capital (Kandy) was attacked by invading foreign troops. According to legends, King Senarath (1604 – 1635) had constructed the first Royal Palace in Hanguranketha. Shiromi of “Kondanamagena” fame, 50 years celebrity in Canada by Sunil Thenabadu  The child singing prodigy Shiromi Fernando, born in year 1960  ‘Baby Shiromi” celebrity domiciled in Canada is planning to commemorate her golden milestone in singing since coming to fame in year 1971 with her ‘kondenamagena’ song recorded for the Sooriya label.
