One of the Days; in a Retiree’s Daily Routine.- By Noor Rahim   It is the onset of a cold day in Autumn And the sun has still not arisen My wake-up call by Mother Nature comes later But as regimented I wake up in the dark; no matter   I drag my feet to the washroom looking glum but solemn Peering through the blind it looks dark, dreary and forlorn But thank God the washroom has an electric heater That makes the situation bearable and better   After the normal routine and motions I’m ready for my cup of tea and toasted muffin Plans for the day are part of the daily reckoner Which shopping Mall do we go to is the poser?   We set off to the Mall in our small sedan To soon confront the traffic; the rush; and the aggression There’s so much indiscipline and ...

THE AGE OF INNOCENCE & THENCE-FORTH. –  By Noor Rahim As is my routine, in retired life; I sit relaxed on the porch and watch the clouds roll by. For want of something better to do, my mind as usual, wanders into the “reminiscing mode”. Reversing right back into the past; and thence-forth back again into the “comparison mode”, to that of the present day experiences. I feel lucky and very fortunate indeed that I was born 8 and a half decades ago; when the “Age of Innocence” was a fact and ruled the roost. In comparison I find and lament, that this is hardly so in the present days. I now wonder in amazement if the “Age of Innocence” is almost fictional or just one of those periods that has phased away with time. The only exception I believe is in the “eyes of the Law” where it is ...

Happy Thanksgiving Day – 2022 – By Noor Rahim Yes! It is just a few days more for Thanksgiving To thank the Good Lord for the food He provides But that’s for the fortunate who have the resources to purchase But how often does one give thanks other than the “Holiday”, for reminding Soon we feast to celebrate the “Holiday” with all the food & trimmings And do most of us really pause a moment before one eats To say a prayer of thanks before one partakes Or invoke the Blessings of The Almighty before ingesting   Have you ever given thought to the poor and their suffering For whom every morsel is a Blessing that satisfies For remember dear Reader the poor always Blesses you in acceptance In addition, looks up at the High Heavens in acknowledging That The Almighty has helped them in their need and seeking We ...

Poverty & Empathy – by Noor Rahim   (01 October 2022) We see so much of this phenomenon called poverty, today In this World that boasts of plenty But many folks around the World do live in dire straits And undoubtedly it is a reality   Some are due to misfortune and unforeseen calamity And yet some through their own fault, & fallacy And some indulging in unwanted fantasies And plunging down into the chasm of a dark alley   As fellow human beings, to assist the unfortunate do we rally Thinking foremost of sympathy and charity But, these two feelings are really superficial and meaningless Unless you link them with the key word of “EMPATHY”   Yes, for a more meaningful exhibit of alleviating “Poverty” We have to fill in the shoes of the downtrodden, to understand why they have fallen, this way The raise him up in a way ...

Poverty – the scourge that has the World in its’ grip – By Noor Rahim Almighty God created our lives in equality Born free & live free was the concept renowned That now remains in the animal domain without much rivalry But we Homo sapiens build in their domain – chased & killed But “live free” is the portion that affects our lives quality For God helps those who help themselves is the edict   Without means, there is no sustenance of life, is the cry This requires the shedding of sweat and toil to a life, as desired But this needs determination & will to lead a life comfortably The fortunate are born with wealth inherited And to most, earning as they go along in accordance with their ability But made aware of the saying “Cut your coat, according to the cloth” is what is said   But to ...

Connection Between Richness & Happiness – Are They Synonymous? – by Noor Rahim Richness is a much valued and sought after ambition or aim in a person’s life; no doubt. Some inherit and yet others emulate and achieve; but the basic “Richness & Associated Happiness” is ingrained in you at the time of Birth. Bubbling with Joy and conveying such “Richness in Happiness” to the Parents; Families and their close associates, is what it is.  As a person gets older and grows up in this materialistic World; the quest for “materialistic objectives” comes to the fore in a vast majority of the folks. After all many take on the notion that “wealth brings happiness”. If a person believes in this notion it is best that they dig into their inner self and judge for themselves; if “wealth really brings happiness”. To balance this equation one must also think of “Richness” ...

Lessons from the Bees, Butterflies, Insects & Birds. – By Noor Rahim The Meteorological Department forecast indicated that the weather was going to be a gorgeous one. So I ventured out with much anticipation and elation; only to be greeted with a blast of extremely hot air. So, my first reaction, was to beat a hasty retreat into the cool environment of my Home. Arming myself with a large thirst quenching cooled drink I decided to sit on the porch in my favourite armchair; surrounded by the cool shade of the trees that abound my Home. Seated did I see the periodic ruffling of the leaves and swaying of the branches on the many trees that surrounds. This heralds the onset of a gentle breeze and more so the cooling of the hot air in its aftermath. The pleasure of the cooled breeze extends so much of relief. Very soon ...

Memories of Yore – By Noor Rahim There I was sitting comfortably in my recliner With my eyelids almost drooping and ready to close When I got jolted out of my reverie By the daunting “tick-tock” of the clock that did stir Watched the seconds turn to minutes And the minutes no doubt turns to hours; and the hours to days The years too just slides away as only you know how You wonder how they all passed without in as much as an adieu Leaving behind memories of the yester year; in its’ journey One can only re-live the past that went by, so quickly Making one forlorn and submerged in past memories With the deeds of yore, be it good or bad; and the aftermath worry The good is always very easy to enjoy and savour But the bad make some feel guilty of deeds of misdemeanours Unfortunately ...
