Yearning – by Noor Rahim   The word “yearning” means: “eager to fulfill a desire”; “filled with a desire”; “longing for” or simply “craving” as per the common definitions in any dictionary. In life we are constantly confronted with our “yearnings” or cravings; be it for materialistic requirements and wants; or for our spiritual needs/guidance. Yet with some resorting to spiritual favours (for fulfillment of cravings for ones needs/ requirements) in order to fulfill their materialistic desires. Apart from such above desires; we in the very North or should I say “Top of the World” have a definitive “craving”, working in our innermost sub conscience, when we confront the God given phenomena of the 4 well defined seasons that rules our very lives. That of Summer; Autumn; Winter; and Fall. We “weather the storm” so to say year in and year out, bravely and meaningfully; with some enjoying and yet ...

Lessons from the Bees, Butterflies, Insects & Birds. – Noor Rahim   The Meteorological Department forecast indicated that the weather was going to be a gorgeous one. So I ventured out with much anticipation and elation; only to be greeted with a blast of extremely hot air. So, my first reaction, was to beat a hasty retreat into the cool environment of my Home. Arming myself with a large thirst quenching cooled drink I decided to sit on the porch in my favorite armchair; surrounded by the cool shade of the trees that abound my Home. Seated did I see the periodic ruffling of the leaves and swaying of the branches of the trees. This heralds the onset of a gentle breeze and more so the cooling of the hot air in its aftermath. The pleasure of the cooled breeze extends so much of relief. Very soon the beads of ...

A Mother’s Daily “Never-Ending” Task – by Noor Rahim        While the school going children & wage earners go out to do their tasks Returning home after a day of stress and hard work Longing to pour out their woes into someone’s patient ears There’s none better than one’s Mother’s comfort that one seeks   One’s day starts off with a breakfast that is already on the counter Back home in the evening, to the awaiting cup of tea and dinner But then, that generally is an eight hour stretch of study/work anyway With the weekend and holidays to relax & recuperate in whatever way   But do pause a moment and give thought to a Mother Who wakes much earlier to commence her daily chores, without a murmur Before you can open your eyes and go out on your working venture The Mother who has you in her thoughts ...

Prelude to the Corona Virus – by Noor Rahim Now that most of us have a free moment from our onerous and routine tasks that we are so attuned to; I believe we can now (at least) spare a few moments from the “Board Games” & sometimes “Bored Games” to think back in retrospect of the “silent malady” that have struck the whole World so simultaneously and so venomously. 70 years or so ago, did I learn at school that “Humans will kill Nature & Nature will kill Humans” someday. – This is a point so etched into my mind; that I often keep wondering if this indeed will bear fruition. As the years went by we did see rapid advancements in the life style; technological advancements; and the lure of better living (perhaps luxury living). Yes! From the “Bullock Cart” age we reached the “Jet Age” in leaps & ...

The World in Turmoil – Ecologically; Spiritually; Economically; and Politically –by Noor R. Rahim The World is no more a Garden of Eden. One would have thought that with the advancement of knowledge and Technology it would be “Heaven on Earth”; but alas! It appears that we are far from it. Perhaps to those who have amassed wealth more than they will ever be able to spend themselves, in a life-time, it may be so. But to the ordinary folk it is a “day to day” scenario in life; with no time to see if it is Heaven or Earth.   Ecologically; spiritually; economically and politically we seem to be edging closer and closer to the dreaded “Point of No Return” – that is if it is not too late already! The solution to these impending disasters does not lie directly on the masses, but on the shoulders of Governments ...

The World at the Brink – by Noor Rahim   As one looks around the World; one, no doubt, cannot but avoid seeing the Natural catastrophes that abound the World today, in continuance and without any let – Be it Natural or Man-Made (induced or attributed). Sure makes for headline news and sensational visual and television news doesn’t it?  Yet how much attention do we give such news of tragedies; except, perhaps, to shrug our shoulders with an emphatic/empathetic expression of – “Poor folks”. Doesn’t it remind one of the extremely old saying which has been bantered about since the very early 1940s – “Mankind will kill Nature and Nature will kill Mankind”. Yet all we do is sweep these catastrophes under the carpet with another shrug and lament – “Que Sera Sera or What will be will be”; or further utter – “Thank God it is has not happened ...

Pall of Gloom turns into a Pall of Doom – by Noor Rahim For well-nigh 2 and a half years or so, we have reeled under the shroud of the Pall of Gloom; with the Pandemic affecting our very lives and in some instances causing us such sorrow and grief in the demise of family members, friends and other fellow beings; not to mention those afflicted. So drastic and heart rending was the inability to pay our last respect to the deceased; and convey our sincere and personal condolences to the families; nor visit those who were afflicted. So close, but yet so far is what comes to mind. In addition our very freedom of movement has been drastically restricted and infringed; and the way of normal life has been affected. No more could we visit our own kith & kin; and that goes for friends too. Place of entertainment; ...
