“EGGS” (FREE RANGE) – By Des Kelly    Among us Sri Lankans, I feel sure that all eLanka readers would be fully aware, that there are many “Roosters”. That said, with all this animal cruelty around at the moment, I would like to dedicate this little piece, especially to all the hens around, after all, it takes a hen and a rooster to manufacture the topic of my article. Eggs are just dregs, when “battery-laid”, by procedures both cruel and strange Still, one egg per day, keeps the doctor away, if the hens as I say, are “free-range”. Hens can’t be to blame, for the cruelty and shame, that their lives locked in cages, now features, it’s not the natural way, and I’d go on to say, they are still one of God’s little creatures. Eggs give us the protein that everyone needs, we love them for breakfast each day, ...

Poetry (Author/Poet unknown), unfortunately – By Des Kelly  I am not sure if Gerald Vandergert (another good Dutch-Burgher-bugger) wrote this poem, and even if he is still alive, as I write this, but this poem would get a laugh, even from people who have just passed on. I think, however, that the title should be   “To Whom It May Concern”, and you could post it on eLanka, just for it’s comedy content. My Michelle & Doug were here when I read this poem to them, and they nearly fell out of their chairs, laughing. We NEED this type of poetry on eLanka, to show the world how efficient we are, in showcasing true talent.  Best regards.  Des.   By Des Kelly Editor-In-Chief eLanka   Poem – To all my loved ones.   My darling, my lover, my beautiful wife,_ _Marrying you messed up my life._ _I see your face when I am ...

“MAN’S BEST FRIEND” – By Des Kelly   A million such stories have been written from time to time, but this one is extraordinary. Touching, and almost unbelievable to read, this “drama” of Frank and Judy HAS to be read however, for everyone to realize how important this “connection” between a man/woman and their pet animals (especially dogs), should be. Show a dog true love folks, and he or she will gladly give their lives for you. Way back when, as a young boy, I did read about another Alsatian male who was shot and killed by his owner who thought his dog had gone into the nursery at home, where his baby was sleeping, to harm the child, only to realize, too late, that a Cobra-Snake had found it’s way into the same nursery, and Rover was sitting by the baby’s cot, teeth bared, and growling, simply telling the ...

“VALE’ PRINCE PHILIP” – By Des Kelly   Image Source: Vulture He was a Royal Navy Sub- Lieutenant when he first met his own Princess, whose name was Elizabeth. The young couple fell deeply in love, got married, and started their own family. Although he, Philip, was of Royal descent himself, he was originally Prince Philip of Greece, he assumed the name Mountbatten-Windsor, after his wife’s Royal father, King George V1 died, leaving his elder daughter Princess Elizabeth to become Queen Elizabeth the 2nd, with him (Philip) to become her Consort.            This, he did, with great aplomb, always walking one step behind her, his Queen, yet giving her every support, and guiding her through everything that life brings, Royalty, being no exception to the rule. There were good times, there were bad, sometimes happy, sometimes sad, putting it simply, Queen Elizabeth didn’t care, because Philip ...

“DEPENDABLE-DEFENCE” – By Des Kelly     This extremely interesting TRUE STORY was sent out by a good friend and ex Royal Ceylon Navy Officer, Chris. Lawton-O.A.M., relating to the recent  “Racist-Rantings” going on in England, in relation to “The Royal Family” versus a slightly less Royal Family, involving Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, Oprah Winfrey, and the entire  Social-Media Corporation of America, it seems, intent on discovering the “Culprit of the Colour” controversy now rampant in both old Blighty and the new Land of the free America, under it’s new President, Joe Biden. With Covid 19 still causing havoc in both England & America, vaccinations being “rolled-out” everywhere, Wars, still being fought all over the place, Climate-change, in full swing, Icebergs melting in the Arctic, floods, bushfires,  Volcanoes spitting out red-hot lava, etc., etc., the COLOUR(English), COLOR (American) of a baby’s skin, takes pride of place in this ...

Phenomenal 2-letter word – By Des Kelly At the best of times, English is a very strange language, indeed. There are not too many languages that have the variety of meanings of one tiny 2 letter word like “UP“, however, here they are, folks, for your personal perusal.           In this day and age, our younger generations do not seem to worry about this International Language, trying their best to abbreviate words a-plenty, using little hand-held devices, but when it comes to the Queen’s English (as it is known), this is a tragedy.  ...

FROM ONE SONGWRITER -ANOTHER – By Des Kelly    With all the trouble & strife (& I don’t mean wife), that is going on at the moment, there comes a time when we have to take a break and listen to this very unusual song, written by this very unusual guy, with a glint in his eye.           This was quite possibly his debut on television, nobody seemed to know him, the judges did not have an inkling about the song he was about to sing. ...

“GREET, HIS LIFE & TIMES” – By Des Kelly   Many tributes have already been made, including one from Joe Van Langenberg & “your’s truly”, in Australia on eLanka. My apologies for naming Tuesday the 29th of December as the day of his passing, it was actually Monday, the 28th, according to a much more reliable source, his son, Steve. This, together with this main “son re- father” account of his dad’s hectic, wonderful, & remarkable life, in a brief but touching tribute/semi-autobiog.             Chris was a truly multi-talented individual, never satisfied with seeing the world pass by without his involvement in something or the other. Most times, it was both.            On behalf of eLanka, I would like to say thank you to Stephen Greet for this more in-depth story on the man who was his dad. It’s a great ...

“SANTA CLAUS EXPLAINED” – By Des Kelly  It is not too far away now.  Christmas eve is only two weeks away, and the jolly fat man will soon be climbing down chimneys everywhere. Toys for both boys & girls who have been good will find their way into waiting arms. Too soon, he has come and gone and although the children look forward to his next visit, they know very little about him.            This will help you children to get to know Santa a bit better. Please read this interesting piece. Better still, ask your parents to tell you all about this jolly old man. Happy Christmas to all you boys and girls and don’t forget to be good during next year, too.   Desmond Kelly. (Editor-in-Chief)  eLanka. The Jon S. “STORMS NEVER LAST” – By Des Kelly  Once in a way, a song grabs my attention to the extent that I feel I just have to share it with all of our eLanka  members, around the World. Many will have already heard this beautiful Country song, written by an equally beautiful songstress, songwriter, and pianist, Jessie Colter, dedicated to her famous Country Icon husband Waylon Jennings, God rest his soul.            I consider myself a Country Music fanatic, and have seen this great couple Jessie & Waylon sing this song on stage, together, with this Country “Outlaw” Waylon publicly showing his love for his beautiful wife, even as they sang.  I loved their version of the song           Then, out of the blue, so to speak, I suddenly watched another version of Storms Never Last, this time, by an Irish Father/Daughter combination, ...
