MERRY CHRISTMAS – By Des Kelly My grateful thanks to Chris Lawton, on behalf of e’Lanka, for the story behind one of most famous Carols sung during every Christmas that I can remember, from the year 1950 when I formed my own Carol party at the age of just 14, when I sang this beautiful Carol along with many others, after starting off at Lorensz Rd., Bambalapitiya, covering our local areas on foot, from dusk till dawn, for three nights from the 22nd of December. This particular Carol was always one of our favourites, but I didn’t know the actual story behind the song, so my thanks and best wishes again, to Chris. A Heartwarming response – to the article “YULETIDE – BY CHARMAINE CANDAPPA” Dear Charmaine, Thank you for sharing your childhood memories with us and for your best wishes. You definitely had an amazing time while you were growing up. I also recall fondly the Christmas days I spent in Sri Lanka. I lived in a town that was equally populated with Christians. My wonderful neighbors with nine children were Christians. Their Christmas celebrations were elaborate. Being as curious as I am, I would always actively participate in their celebrations, including joining them and going around my town visiting various households singing the Carol. This was one of the few times my parents would allow me to go around the city in the middle of the night with others. As liberal-minded as they were, we also celebrated Christmas in our own way. My father would bring a Christmas tree home and ...

To go into details seems totally unnecessary, and eLanka’s main reason for this important “Message in Music” is to sincerely remind each and everyone in a simple, yet beautiful song “MERRY CHRISTMAS, FROM OUR   HOUSE TO YOUR HOUSE”  I hope you enjoy it.       Desmond Kelly  (Editor-in-Chief)  eLanka. ...
