Esric Jackson…..Sri Lanka’s and Melbourne’s ‘comeback kid’- BY TREVINE RODRIGO IN MELBOURNE Strength, resilience and a God given talent is what personifes Esric Jackson, one of Sri Lanka’s outstanding vocal talent over several decades. And there’s no sign of his love for entertainment and being in the thick of it waning. Not in the near future anyway. Honoring the LEGEND – Desmond de Silva – by Mariazelle Goonetilleke What a night that was … His contemporaries and colleagues came from many parts of the world with only one thought and that was to remember Des the legend and tribute to him through song and music. The Paravilla Function Center Sydney was the venue selected for the night and from the moment you entered the foyer – you felt as though Des himself was there – because you walked into his personal belongings – suits, pictures, awards, and memoirs – all of these for his fans and friends to witness first hand. The Srilankan entourage consisted of Sohan Weerasinghe, Melantha Perera, Corrine Almeida, Trevine Joseph, and myself. We were so moved we would be on the program that we all stood up to be counted. “BORN TO BE BLUE” – By Des Kelly I first heard of them after coming to Australia, to become a Citizen and settle here, in Ozi-Land. I reckon that it was either during the late 1960’s or early 1970’s. I did fancy their name, having been one, myself, during my younger days in Ceylon. Then, suddenly, a young lady I knew came  to me, with this cassette-tape by the Mavericks, and after listening to their bright style of music, I became one of their fans overnight and started collecting their recordings to add to my huge collection of Country music, simply because I felt that they were primarily a Country-Rock Band, and a very good one, at that. I would like the readers/members of e’Lanka to know that I do pick only the very best music for them to enjoy while they scroll through the many different reading material (Articles), ...

The hall was a picture, thanks to the creative talents of Suzie and Namal, and this atmosphere enhanced a frenzy of musical enjoyment led by Russell Lowe and Ray Anthonisz who provided us with Bollywood, music, beautiful dance music and a feverish dance floor energized by ‘Boogie’! Our special dance guests, Panchadi and Shazna set the tone for the night with their talented routine of Bollywood dance. The response to their lesson sequence ...
