Sri Lanka: Back on the Tourism Map-by Emma Thomson Source:Dailynews The Sacred City of Kandy is teeming with life. Monkeys tightrope along telephone cables, the trees around Kandy Lake are feathered with hordes of egrets, and the Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa)— said to house the Buddha’s left canine — thrums with the sound of drums pounded every evening for pooja (worship). One dancer drops his spinning plates, another forgets his tambourine, and the drummers bump into each other as they exit backwards into the wings. Inconsistent Flights on SriLankan Airlines – What Went Wrong?   I traveled on SriLankan Airlines from Bangkok via Colombo to Dubai. This is a video reporting my latest SriLankan Airlines flight experience. At Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, many shops and lounges are currently closed, many airplanes are parked and the airport is very quiet. SriLankan Airlines Business Class passengers can use the Miracle Lounge before the flight. The flight to Colombo from Bangkok is operated by A321. Flight time was 3 hours. A full lunch was served. Check out the seat, cabin, food, and service on this short sector. I transited Colombo and used the Serendib Lounge of SriLankan Airlines. It has a good amount of food but the lounge is very dated. It needs an upgrade. The next flight to Dubai was on SriLankan Airlines A330-300 with individual Business Class seating. However, the food and service were let down and ...

His ideal girl… Source:Island Surprise! Surprise! Generally the girls hold sway where my Chit-Chat column is concerned. And, that’s because they all want to be a part of this popular feature. Of course, guys are welcome, too, and this week the spotlight is on Amandha Amarasekara – a content creator and model. Amandha models for Brian Kerkoven…and this is how our Chit-Chat went: 1. How would you describe yourself? Someone who realized that there was more to life than what is shown, who believed in dreams and chased after them and aspires to inspire as many as he can to ‘live life without merely surviving through one.’ 2. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? ...

New year 1980-BY Capt Gihan A Fernando Source:Island RCyAF, Air Ceylon, Air Lanka, SIA and SriLankan Airlines It was 31st December 1979.  Air Lanka was established on the 1st of September that year. It was my second ever trip to Europe. We were scheduled to fly Dubai to Orly airport, Paris, France via Zurich, Switzerland. Our Captain was an ex-Colonel from the Portuguese Air Force and had also flown Boeing 707 aircraft, for the TAP Air Portugal. We were flying a four engine, Boeing 707 312B registration 4R-ALB which was one of the two that had been leased from Singapore Airlines. Although I was still ‘wet behind the ears’, with regards to intercontinental flying, our Flight Engineer was an Air Ceylon Douglas DC8 veteran used to operating in that part of the world. Our route took us to over Doha (Qatar), the Island of Bahrain, across the Persian Gulf to Kuwait, Iraq, ...
