RE-VISITING SWITZERLAND – By Dr Tilak S. Fernando Unlike Sri Lanka, Switzerland is an excellent and clean country with no muddy patches or heaps of rubbish dumps in various parts of the country. Residents usually do not come in cars like in Sri Lanka and dump their domestic rubbish in bags in multiple places. Switzerland has been named the best country in the world by Indiantimes.com. It says, “One of the most beautiful nations on the planet dotted with lakes, valleys, and the Alps.” In Switzerland, outside the town area, the scenery will be a lot of mountains and rocks. Mount Riggie could be seen from my son’s sitting room when clouds do not interfere with the mountain. Concerning some domestic garbage, electronic systems are installed for domestic waste bins. so no outsider is able abo to dump in other’s waste. “SCENIC SPLENDOUR” – by Des Kelly Set to music. My Dreamworld, now affordable for me to see, yet still impossible, because of ill-health, that I least expected in the latter stages of my life, but somehow now presented in the most glorious technicolor available, is this piano improvisation (with photos of Switzerland) by a Pianist, who, for all the World, looks like a seasoned “bikie”, named Waldteufel78, probably born about 44 years ago. In my own humble opinion, I would place Switzerland on a par with the beautiful Ceylon of old, perhaps this is why I enjoyed this ‘clip’ so much and wanted to share it with all the rest of our e’Lanka readers. So, sit back folks, enjoy the Music and the Scenic splendour that is the magical Switzerland, the Swiss Alps, etceter, all on e’Lanka, for you. “NUWARA ELIYA” – by Des Kelly This post was sent out to me, by a good friend, Joe VanLangenberg  featuring this young man Travis Fein, walking the Streets of Nuwara Eliya and extolling it’s magnificence in his eyes. I agree with him quite wholeheartedly and decided to publicise the picture/story on e’Lanka for everyone interested as well. Nuwara Eliya, or Nu-raliya. as it was sometimes referred to, by us Burgher  buggers, was indeed a lovely place, as I remember it, ,quite close to Haputale in the highlands, a tiny Suburb of our tiny Island, yet supposedly the 2nd best area in the WORLD for the recovery of patients who had previously suffered various diseases. The top recovery area was supposed to be somewhere in Switzerland.    Desmond Kelly. (Editor-in-Chief) e’Lanka. ...

Ashton Agar’s Sri Lankan Lineages – By Dr Michael Roberts Source:thuppahis.com Ashton Agar may play cricket now for Western Australia, but he is the eldest of three boys schooled at the De La Salle College in Melbourne. Our investigations indicate that his father John Agar is from a cricketing family associated with the Prahran Cricket Club in Melbourne – a happy coincidence because Prahran had several Burgher migrants active within its portals—notably Owen Mottau and Dav Whatmore.[1] As vitally, his mother Sonia is a Sinhalese Sri Lankan, being the daughter of Nala Hewawisa[2] from a marriage with Sheila Plunkett,[3] who is described in one source as a “Burgher of British descent.” John & Sonia Agar and eldest son Ashton The Agar family at Lords By marvelous coincidence it appears that there were Agars too in British Ceylon – working as planters. Philip Sansoni (in Sydney now) sent me this note: “Interestingly, there is a tablet ...
