Introducing an Essay on an Ethnic Confrontation at a Cricket Match in 1981-by Michael Roberts Source:Thuppahis This ‘encounter’ took place in 1981 and involved a Burgher Sri Lankan barracker earning the combined ‘resistance’ of an Aussie cricketer and Sinhala bystander (Sinha). As an observer of this set of exchanges, I moved beyond a clarification of the historical understandings embedded in Sinha’s success in ‘defeating’ the aggressive Burgher to address the relationship and differences between ‘typical’ anthropological studies and ‘typical’ historical work. A recap of RCOBA NSW and ACT organised and supported events over the past few months Tennis – The second annual tennis tournament for the D L Seneviratne and T Nithiyaratnam Trophy was held on a beautiful Sydney winter day at the Parramatta City Tennis Center. Turning the tables on Royal, Hartley College took home the Trophy in a well played tournament. Rugby – RCOBA supported the 77th Bradby Shield live stream event and party organised by Trinity College Old Boys NSW on 22 July. Alas whilst leading 10:0 at lemons, Royal College missed the mark during the second half to trail 10:13 to the Trinitians at the final whistle. Lets keep our fingers crossed for a repeat of 1979. Demise of Srimal Christopher Abeyewardene – Formerly of Lake House & Founder of Sri Lankan Reporter Canada Yasmin and I  learnt with deep sorrow & great  sadness the passing away of  Srimal Christopher Abeywardena. formerly of Lake House Sri Lanka  and later Founder of the Sri Lankan Reporter. We offer our Heartfelt Condolences to his Family during this difficult times. Srimal  and his sisters and brother Senake Colombage  &  I lived down Wedikande Road Mt Lavinia  in our youthful days.  As school boys whilst playing cricket we admired his majestic walk along Wedikande Road probably carrying the Daily News  covering his face to prevent the evening sun. May the Divine Lord give his bereaved  family the strength to face this moment of grief very courageously.
