OBA Carol Service – Saturday 18th December 2021 Source:Thomiana Newsletter After postponing last year due to Covid, the Carol Service was held on Saturday December 18 th 2021 at St Aidan’s Anglican Church, Noble Park with the attendance exceeding all expectations. The organization of this event faced many challenges with the practices beginning in mid-November (although planned in September) due to the lockdown. The Wardens of St Aidan’s initially approving 30 attendees for the service and gradually increasing to 75 and finally, after postponing the service from 4th December to 18th December the actual attendance was around 120 people. The service was conducted by Fr Gerald Loos an Old Thomian and vicar of St Aidan’s and it was a privilege to worship at his Church. Fr Gerald was very helpful in supporting the Sub-committee with all the arrangements of the service and his warm welcome and presence at practices. The ...

Felicia & Everard La Faber – 50th Wedding Anniversary More photos can be viewed on eLanka Facebook page – click here Everard & Felicia met in 1965 while Felicia was still at school. Everard was 21 years old and Felicia was 16years. Everard was a past pupil of St Benedict’s College, Kotehena and Felicia was from St Anthony’s Convent, Mutuwal.  As Everard’s parents were preparing to migrate to Australia in 1969, they got engaged and Felicia followed in 1970 to Sydney. They married on October 17th 1970 at St John’s Anglican Church,  Cox’s Road, North Ryde and then with God’s grace were blessed with 2 Daughters and 2 Sons. Three married and they gave us 6 grandchildren. Last year the couple were supposed to celebrate this occasion however, Covid 19 was in the way of their plans. The Ceylon Society of Australia AGM and Social Sunday 19 December 2021 – By Adam Raffel (Photos thanks to Mahal Selvadurai) More photos can be viewed on eLanka Facebook page – click here The Ceylon Society of Australia (CSA) Annual General Meeting and Social on 19 December 2021 was a fitting finale to a very challenging year of lockdowns due to the Covid19 pandemic. The venue was the Main Hall at the Pennant Hills Community Centre, festooned with Christmas decor and the tables beautifully decorated with Christmas themed table cloths and little Christmas trees, arranged by Pauline Gunewardene, the President of the CSA, and Committee members Amal Wahab and Adam Raffel with Rosani Wahab. Although the NSW Government had just relaxed all restrictions, the CSA made checks for double vaccination certificates at entry, and guests were appreciative of the Committee’s concern for their safety. While there are many books written about mindfulness and even more on children, a book specially written about developing mindfulness in young children is rare and valuable. With almost 35 years of extensive knowledge and experience in early childhood education and good understanding of mindfulness meditation, Shanti is well-positioned to write this book. The book launch and symposium was open to well-wishers who registered to participate in the event.
