Sinhala & Tamil Avurudu (New Year) Celebrations at Walawwa – Breakout from Lockdown! – By Trevine Rodrigo in Melbourne Sinhala & Tamil Avurudda with a classy array of special events, fabulous cuisine and a mix of politicians and celebrities was the highlight of this year’s Walawwa festivities. The breakout from lockdown last year could not have been more emphatic as Melburnians flocked in large numbers to usher in the traditional Sri Lankan celebrations of Sinhala and Tamil New year and they partied with gusto returning the event to near normalcy in prevailing Covid-19 restrictions. Walawwa owners Nash Samarakoon and Shehan Wijewardena spearheaded a well knit team that organised and executed a well orchestrated afternoon program that included the selection of Avuruddu Kumari and Kumaraya. Sri Lanka Independence is celebrated by NSW community organizations Sri Lanka’s 73rd Independence day was celebrated by Sri Lankan community organizations on 6th Febrauray 2021 at the Don Moore Community Center, North Rocks. Led by the Sri Lanka Association of NSW and the Sinhalese Cultural Forum, the event united other Sri Lankan  organizations including Austra-Lanka Muslim Association, Tamils Senior Association, Sri Lanka Malay Association and Seniors of Sri Lanka Association and Orange Leaf. Four Australian Government representatives spoke at the event including the Honourable Michelle Rowland, Member of Parliament for Greenway, Mr Kevin Connolly, MLA for Riverstone, the Honourable Philip Ruddock Mayor of Hornsby and Councillor Ryan Tracey of Hills Shire Council. The Keynote speech was given by Mr Sunil De Silva, former Attorney General of Sri Lanka on the theme “Remembering those who fought for our independence from 1815 to 1948”.   The Royal College Old Boys Association in NSW & ACT Dinner Dance February 2020 – The Valentine’s Ball Photos thanks to RoyGrafix A Royal Night to Remember The spirit first to life awoke again on the 15th February 2020 at the Bicentennial Park in Sydney. The tranquil environment of the Waterview facility was brought alive by around 300 people mostly Old-Royalists and their partners. The event was superbly organised, the venue beautifully decorated and the live band kicked off proceedings with rhythm and swing from the word go. President of the RCOBA Theo Soumyaraj delivered a clear and articulate presentation of the year’s activities to an appreciative audience.   GOOD SHEPHERD CONVENT PAST PUPILS ASSOCIATION, NSW SESQUICENTENNIAL GALA 8TH FEBRUARY 2020  An arch of gold and black and champagne and canapes at the entrance – what a way to welcome everybody to the Good Shepherd Convent Kotahena Sesquicentennial Gala Dinner Dance at the Ryde Civic Centre on the 8th of February. Good Shepherd Convent has set the bar very high with its dinner dances. And this year was no exception. It was an unforgettable night. A feast to the eyes with the décor, a feast to the ears from music by Cazcade and DJ Shehan, and a culinary feast from the Flavour of Ceylon.  Champagne, wine and spirits flowed through the night.
