We 54 Sri Lankans started from Gladstone Park Shopping center at about 7.15am on 8th February 2020. On our way, we had to stop for tea & lunch. We had lunch on a park, we all shared our lunch with each other. We had booked two roomed small houses for all of us. The Senior Citizen Association of Mt. Cricket: Sri Lanka’s women’s squad in Melbourne Sri Lanka’s women’s squad arrived in Melbourne ahead of their important assignment in Australia at the upcoming World Cup. The team led by superstar Chamari Atapattu appeared ready to make an impression after important lessons learned from their earlier tour here where they were comprehensively beaten by world number one Australia who are outright favourites to go back-to-back at home. The felicitation to the cricketers at the Grand on Princes in Melbourne organized by Malik Zaveer, Sri Lanka’s Australian representative, was a huge success with a crowd of nearly 300 enjoying a lavish dinner and super music by top Melbourne dance band Redemption. The cricketers surprised their fans when they showcased their other talent, on the dance floor, and their energy was electrifying as Redemption fed them with non-stop Bailas at a very entertaining night. Chinmaya Mission’s “Melodies of the Monsoon” fundraiser event a resounding success! “After drinking the rain from the ocean, The skies gave birth to the nectar-like rain” – Valmiki Ramayana (Aranya Kanda) On February 1st, 2020 over 100 spiritual seekers and music-lovers congregated in Chinmaya Mission Sydney’s local Ashram in Castle Hill to elevate themselves in the spirit of oneness, and raise operating funds for Chinmaya Mission’s upcoming No Shoes 2020 Campaign, which will raise funds for Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Devi Balika ‘Maroon & Silver Night 2019’ By Dr Minoka Jayatileke, on behalf of Devi committee (Photos by Roy Grafix) The magnificent ‘Maroon & Silver Night’ organised by the Past Pupils Association of Devi Balika in NSW & ACT, was held recently at the Pennant Hills Bowling Club. Many Devians, their families and friends relaxed and indulged in a sumptuous buffet and outstanding entertainment in a sea of colour and vibrant surroundings. The association was formed in 2015 and currently has 75 members. The aim of the event was to raise funds to offer scholarships to underprivileged and academically gifted Devi students in Sri Lanka.
