“BORN TO BE BLUE” – By Des Kelly I first heard of them after coming to Australia, to become a Citizen and settle here, in Ozi-Land. I reckon that it was either during the late 1960’s or early 1970’s. I did fancy their name, having been one, myself, during my younger days in Ceylon. Then, suddenly, a young lady I knew came  to me, with this cassette-tape by the Mavericks, and after listening to their bright style of music, I became one of their fans overnight and started collecting their recordings to add to my huge collection of Country music, simply because I felt that they were primarily a Country-Rock Band, and a very good one, at that.   STORIES IN SONG SERIES 2019 – Moon Songs – By Des Kelly  There is a multitude of “Moon-Songs”. Obviously, this astronomical satellite that orbits the Earth has been the main cause of many a love story, many “Crooners” warbling about her (the moon), an old song of mine, from my Ceylon days entitled “Moonlight, the Danube & You”, The Glen Miller Orchestra signature tune “Moonlight Serenade”, an entire Jim Reeves Album entitled  “Moonlight & Roses”, & I could go on, till the cows come home, “Amsterdam Moon” written and performed by Raul Malo & The Mavericks, a song I do love and hope to record, changing the title (with Raul’s permission to “Sri Lankan Moon” (many of which I have seen, rather than the one in Amsterdam), and now, via Facebook, I have just had the pleasure of listening to one of my favourite Brookes & Dunn melodies “Neon Moon”. ...

“SRI LANKAN MOON” By Des Kelly This writer has been a long-time admirer of a bunch of guys calling themselves “The Mavericks”. They are still very much on the Showbiz scene in America, and, as a band, they are superb. Raul Malo, their “front-man” & lead vocalist is also a songwriter and has written many songs.      On one of their “albums” is a song with the title  “Amsterdam Moon”. Every other song on the album runs for 3 plus minutes, so I was at  loss to understand why the song I preferred (Amsterdam Moon) only lasts for 2 plus minutes. The best song, yet the shortest.
