More Accolades on The Story of St Joseph’s College “Till the Mountain Disappear” by Avishka Mario Senewiratne A fine example of modern historiography Source:FB Avishka Mario Seneviratne Book Review – Prof. Marie Perera Till The Mountains Disappear: The Story of St. Joseph’s College Avishka Mario Senewiratne and Rev. Dr. Stanley Abeysekera Much has already been written about this book which was first published in December, 2020, and gone for two prints in 2021 January and April. Most of the write ups and comments have been positive. The book, which has been referred to as a “historical narrative,” had been initiated by the late Rev. Fr. Stanley Abeysekera and compiled and completed by a young Josephian referred to as “the youngest historian, researcher of his school” (p. 245) by Dr. Sheila Fernando. I am not an authority on Josephian history nor connected at all with St. Josephs College like the reviewers before ...

Laudetur Franciscus A Book Felicitating the Life and Works of Francis D’Almeida is Out – by Nimal Victoria Source:dailymirror.lk We live in an era where the word gratitude is eroding from society especially, the young. This book has been carefully curated by young Avishka Mario Senewiratne to felicitate a legend of our time, Francis D’Almeida on his 75th birthday, which fell on February 10. Francis is generally known for his prowess in coaching basketball and training choirs. However, as this book has been rightfully subtitled, Francis has always been “a man for others”. Avishka Senewiratne is a very rare gem who took upon himself to obtain testimonies and words of appreciation from many people who had experienced or shared the life and works of Francis D’Almeida. Avishka Senewiratne is known to research and write on history and other facets of Sri Lanka. Last year, he had put out his well-received magnum ...

I’M A SOLDIER – by Avishka Mario Senewiratne Dear friends, It has been nearly three months since I launched my book “Till the Mountains Disappear: The Story of St. Joseph’s College”. The book is ongoing a third print of its 1st edition and has been widely circulating not just in Sri Lanka but also in many countries domiciled by Josephians, a few generations ahead of me to the ones half my age! I thought I must share a rather interesting story which happened during the preparation and the day of my book launch, i.e., Tuesday, January 19, 2021. The story is on an eminent Old Joe, General Gerard Hector de Silva. General Gerry de Silva was a distinguished student of the late Rev. Fr. Peter A. Pillai. He had excelled in Cricket and was a pioneer Swimmer under the famed Guy Tiedeman. ...

HISTORY OF ST. JOSEPH’S COLLEGE COLOMBO BY YOUNG WRITER TITLED ‘TILL THE MOUNTAINS DISAPPEAR’ Source:Timeslanka History is an intellectual discipline practiced by historians who try to make sense of the past. Because history is about change, nothing was ever “always” a certain way. The definition of history is a story or tale of what has happened or may have happened in the past. This brings me to the recent publication ‘Till the Mountains Disappear’ by Avishka Mario Senewiratne, a proud young Josephian about the history of his alma mater – St. Joseph’s College Colombo. The book is co-authored by the late Rev. Fr. (Dr) Stanley Abeysekera, 10th Rector of the school. At the outset, let me declare that I studied at St. Peter’s College, Colombo 4, but my late father, grand uncles, uncles, many cousins are alumni of St. Joseph’s College. My grand uncle Claude Wijesinghe captained the cricket team in 1934 & 1935 while my cousin, Brian Obeyesekere captained ...
