DONALD TRUMP PROVIDES RAY OF HOPE FOR ENDING REGIONAL CONFLICTS – by N.S.Venkataraman During  Donald Trump’s recent successful Presidential election campaign , there are two points which he repeatedly  stressed namely  “ America first  policy “  and his desire to stop the war between the countries . Obviously,  his  America First policy mean   that  he would stop the flow of illegal migrants into USA, though one cannot be sure as  to whether he would be able expel the illegal migrants already present in USA.  Further, Trump is likely to  impose tariff on import and export of goods to protect and ensure the growth of American economy. Of course, imposition of tariffs is a  double edged weapon and there is limit beyond which this cannot be done,.  All said and done, no one can find fault with Trump for his America First policy, which is and which should be the country’s ...

Donald Trump & JD Vance – a political marriage made in heaven! – By Hemantha Yapa Abeywardena The contrast of the paths to politics between the two American politicians couldn’t be starker: President Trump was born with a silver spoon in his mouth whereas his vice-presidential pick, JD Vance, was born into utter poverty in a remote corner of the vast nation, to be brought up by a single mother, who had been forced to fight two different struggles simultaneously by her fate, – a drug addiction and making a living for the family. JD Vance, 39, wrote a book in his early 30s, highlighting his early struggles and that of his community in grasping the reality on the ground, where he was brought up. At present, I am reading the book, ‘Hillbilly Elegy’, by JD Vance and his no-holds barred account of what he and the very community that ...

My great teachers who I never met face to face – by Alok Das Henry B Adams said, ‘A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.’ The opinion of William Butler Yates was, ‘Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.’ In the old era we would meet our teachers in a classroom or any other type of face to face scenarios. However, in this modern era we do not just meet them in these scenarios. We can learn from anyone and through reading a book they have written, or a speech they have given somewhere (later made available online or printed somewhere). Today I am going to talk about some of my greatest teachers who I have learned so much from, albeit I have never met them face to face. ...

Trump bowing out; Opportunity for Australia to mend fences with China?  “Those whom the Gods wish to destroy they first make them mad By Raj Gonsalkorale Donald Trump has taken the USA down an abyss of despair and duplicity. Domestic divisions and international disorder dominated the Trump era. Many questioned the sanity of Trump’s approach to governance, nationally and internationally. Now, more than 80 million voters and popular vote majority in excess of 7 million, and 306 electoral college votes has given Joe Biden a clear victory over Trump. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will have a tough time resurrecting some trust and confidence that their own people, and others in the rest of the world, had with the USA. In the age of information technology, the world has become smaller and closer to each other whether one likes it or not, and whether it is a good thing or ...

“HOW TO AVOID ASTEROIDS” – By Des Kelly  Two or three have passed us by, in the last 24 hours, unnoticed because they are skimming across the Universe, at a million miles per second, light years away from this little “blue ball”(thank God), these asteroids have, so far, been no threat to the Earth, as we know it.  However, two 10 kilometre sized asteroids DID hit Australia around 330 million years ago, in the West-Warburton Area, creating a “basin” that covered about 400 kilometres. This is one big bloody basin, still visible to anyone who wants to take a look at it. It is extremely difficult even to imagine the Universe, with it’s trillions of stars, galaxies, black holes, and asteroids hurtling around in deep space, meteorites and sudden “shooting-stars”, leaving a fiery tail, as they vanish from sight. As youngsters, of merely 3 score & 10 years ago, there wasn’t ...
