Reminiscing Memories -Celebrating Shane Warne’s Life by Dr Harold Gunatillake Hello, my name is Harold Gunatillake. I am a retired cosmetic surgeon with interest in videography and compiling and presenting films. Going through my archives, I was lucky to find a footage of the Australian Cricket team when they visited Sri Lanka in September 1999, and footage of the 1st test match Australia vs Sri Lanka played in Kandy. At that party Shane Warne played a big part in his team and at that time the captain was Steve Waugh. This footage I am presenting in honour of the greatest wonderful cricket legend after Bradman, with whom I had the opportunity to meet at the Rock ...

Let us all be proud that we are ‘Sri Lankans’ by Harold Gunatillake Dear Readers, I would like to share this exposure published in the ‘Leader’ Sutherland shire Newspaper in NSW, which is sure to bring pride to all our Sri Lankans migrated here, bringing in much credit to our motherland. We migrated to this lucky country when the situation back home, mainly our living conditions were at its lowest. So as the saying goes,” We left the sinking ship’. Most of us still have connections with our mother country and we cannot forget the good times we had. Why I left Sri Lanka in 1972 was, mainly due to the lack of facilities in Hospitals for the proper care of patients. I was lastly, working as General Surgeon in Badulla Provincial Hospital in the early seventies. Believe me, there was a dearth of antibiotics, including saline given intravenously to emergency ...

Pfizer and AstraZeneca are winners of vaccines, But Pfizer vaccine offers longer-term protection-by Dr Harold Gunatillake Both prevent hospitalization of cases who contract the Delta variant, being vaccinated with either vaccine- prior. Total number of COVID-19 cases passes 181 million and more than 3.9 million deaths. Covid-19 has now been reported on every continent. COVID-19 is a respiratory disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Currently, there are 127 candidate vaccines. Today, there are 37 candidate vaccines in stage 3 clinical trials. So far, 19 vaccines have been authorized across several countries. Both Pfizer and AstraZeneca are winners when there are so many other candidate vaccines? There is more evidence that Pfizer vaccine offers longer-term protection. Currently, the thought in Australia is that people under the age of 60 should preferentially get Pfizer, In the UK people under the age of 40 are advised to get Pfizer. Chronic Kidney Disease a major health issue in Sri Lanka.-by Harold Gunatillake Transcript: “It is the toil, sweat and tears of the humble paddy farmer in the Dry Zone of Sri Lanka that puts the rice on our plates daily. It is this very same farmer, mainly in the North Central Province (NCP), who has been caught in the vice-like grip of a deadly, mysterious kidney disease”-Kumudini Hettiarachchi. It is observed that there is a high prevalence of chronic kidney disease of unknown origin, leading to failure in kidney function, in the Northern Central province in Sri Lanka, among the farming community. It has become the silent killer among the farming community and a major health problem in the island. It is a toxic nephropathy and labelled as chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology. There is various hypothesis, but the closest one is environment exposure to heavy metals. These heavy ...
