An Inspirational Message for May 2025 Mother’s Day – By Charles Schokman Image Source : circumcisionvasectomyaus Mum, You’re a Blessing! “Honour your father & mother”-which is the first commandment with a promise-“so that it may go well with you & that you may enjoy long life on the earth. ‘ Ephesians 6:1-3 NIV When it comes to motherhood, the above sign on a church bulletin board says it all: If evolution is true, how come mothers still only have two hands? Image Source : theinquisitivemom Seriously, Mum, today we stop to salute you and let you know how much we appreciate you. Some days you probably wonder if what you’re doing even matters. Your work is never done… you’re always exhausted… and there’s no big financial reward. We live in an age that seems to diminish service and exalt glitz… sometimes it’s hard to value your investment. “Those Mother and Child Moments” – A Mother’s Day reflection -By Niranjan Selvadurai Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate the unique and irreplaceable bond between a mother and her child. Remembering those wonderful and poignant moments spent together evokes feelings of nostalgia and brings back fond memories of laughter, love, and shared experiences. Sri Lankan author and poet Sri Chandrarathne Manawasinghe, immortalized a mother and child moment is his Sinhala song “Monawada amme akuru jathiyak.” This song was first recorded as a “gramophone record,” during the 1950s. The song captures a conversation between a mother and her little son. The son in his innocence seeks explanations to delightful observations in nature. The mother responds with much imagination and poise.   This conversation should not be limited to those who comprehend Sinhala verse. This is my attempt to provide a universal poetic interpretation of this magical conversation, to English readers. ...

SUNDAY CHOICE – A Mother’s Sacrificial Love – by Charles Schokman  “By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren” 1 John. “Perhaps it has never occurred to you. On the other hand, maybe you are aware of it every day. But a mother is a sacrificial being. In addition to many other things, she sacrifices her sleep, her time, her career, her thin body, and her sense of “self” for her children. This doesn’t stop after the baby and toddler years. It keeps on going, in some form or another, for the rest of her life. Being a mother requires commitment, selflessness, patience, and a boatload of unconditional love. It’s a lot of hard, often thankless work to raise a child, which is why the mothers in your life deserve to be honoured on Mother’s Day (and every day!). Traditional ...
