Re-appointment of Sanjeeva Jayawardena, President’s Counsel to the Monetary Board of the CBSL Source:Island Sanjeeva Jayawardena, President’s Counsel, has been re-appointed to the Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), for a fresh term of 6 years, up to June 2027, by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, consequent to his nomination being approved by the Parliamentary Council. Sanjeeva Jayawardena is the first President’s Counsel to serve on the Monetary Board of the CBSL. He presently serves as the Chairman of the Monetary Board Level, External Debt Monitoring Committee and as the Chairman of the Board Risk Oversight Committee. He also chairs the Ethics Committee of the CBSL. Jayawardena, has been practising exclusively in the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal for the last 29 years, having been called to the Bar in 1992. Don’t protect perpetrators through committees – Cardinal-By Norman Palihawadana Source:Island Easter Sunday carnage Archbishop of Colombo, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith yesterday asked the government not to appoint any more committees to delay action against those responsible for the Easter Sunday attacks. He made this statement after visiting a number of churches in Colombo and the suburbs yesterday. The Cardinal said that the government had time till 21 April to take action against the perpetrators of the attacks and Catholics will take to the streets if their request went unheeded. “We won’t be fooled again. Please, don’t try to mislead us. The Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) on Easter Sunday attacks took 18 months to submitted its report. They had done so to allow the government to bring about reconciliation and conduct an impartial investigation into various allegations, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) Leader, Rauff Hakeem told the media at Temple Trees. The decision had been taken after a lengthy discussion with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and others, Hakeem said. Hakeem requested the government to have an investigation conducted by the CID into the allegations and take legal action within one month if there was ample evidence. The total number of tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka during September reached 149,087, posting a 2.8% year-on-year growth, while pushing cumulative arrivals to over 1.7 million, latest data released by the Government said.. In September the largest source market for tourists was India, followed by China and the United Kingdom. As at 30 September, 1,731,922 tourists had visited Sri Lanka for this year – an 11.6% growth over last year when 1,551,931 tourists had visited the country during the same period. Asia and Pacific continued to be the largest source of tourist traffic to Sri Lanka with 47% of the total traffic received in September 2018, while Europe accounted for 43% of the total traffic, America 6%, Middle East 3% and Africa 1%.
